Fortunately I rarely need to visit the surgery, but I have needed to on two occasions so far this month. Of course it can be a hassle to get a doctor's appointment at short notice, but the telephone call back service worked well for me. My issues were promptly addressed by two doctors and a nurse, and I was very pleased with the attention I received. They were extremely busy but took the time and care they felt I needed, and it was excellent service.

  2. Review titled Unhelpful & inflexible

I was referred to a cardiologist following an appointment with the GP. After investigations by the cardiologist he recommended that I start a course of Statins. I phoned the surgery to request a prescription and was told that I had to see a GP because the cardiologist wrote in his letter 'I would be grateful if you would consider this patient for Statins'. I made an appointment for a telephone consultation. The GP rang me 33 minutes prior to the start time of my appointment (08:27) and I missed the call as was not expecting it at that time. A message was left saying 'sorry that you could not pick up' and that 'you should contact the surgery when available'. I contacted the surgery and was told that the doctor is a busy person (so am I) and would probably not phone back and that I could not be put through to him. I rebooked a phone consultation for Wednesday 29th March. Oddly on 29th March I received a text message informing me that my appointment was confirmed for 5th April. I checked on-line and this booking was for a blood test. I did not make such a booking. The original booking for 29th March had been removed. I phoned the surgery again to query this and was told I had booked a blood test in error. I did not. I was again told that I need to speak with a doctor and that I would have to phone back at 8am tomorrow morning to get a telephone appointment. It should not be this difficult to obtain a prescription that has been recommended by a consultant. I appreciate that GP's are busy but they are not alone. Patients can also have demanding professions or circumstances that does not allow the freedom to spend hours attempting to obtain treatment recommended by a specialised consultant.
