Attended the practice with elderly relative who can only mobilise for short distances. The treatment room was quite a distance from the reception and I approach the receptionist to ask for the use of a wheelchair. I was told the practice didn’t have any wheelchairs for patients to use. My relative is 86 and struggled to walk to distance the treatment room, this is because she is in considerable pain due to having 2 lumbar vertebrae fractures due to osteoporosis. If the practice had to evacuate in an emergency I would have had to carry her out of the building. This is unsafe and places patient’s at risk. Although there are facilities for disabled parking there are no grab rails to help patients access the surgery and no rails along the internal walls to assist patients with poor mobility. In my opinion the practice fails to acknowledge The disability discrimination act.
