  1. Review titled Lack of choice

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 April 2024

I have just come online to check the reviews for Lander Medical and I am a bit surprised at some of the replies to previous reviews. The review commenting on only having two practises in Truro obviously means Three Spires or Lander. Not Lander Truro and Lander Threemilestone. The person who wrote that review is correct. I tried to switch to the other GP surgery today and was told they don't take on Lander patients. Which effectively takes away our right to choose better care. It's a disappointing surgery and if you've just moved to the area - choose between the two surgeries very carefully because once you've made your choice you're stuck for life (unless you move out of Truro of course)

  2. Review titled Lacking compassion

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I have been a patient with Lander for about 10 years. in that time I've seen Lander perform well and go through a pandemic and come out the other side. But in the last year I've noticed more and more people are openly unhappy with this practice. and me too. I feel like I cannot talk to my GP without my GP dismissing me, patronising me and making me feel like a waste of time. I now avoid going and sometimes I put my own health at risk- I'm under consultant care and I'm encouraged to seek medical help when required. Last week, a receptionist talked over me, made me feel silly and then gave me incorrect medical advice. Thankfully I didn't follow this. It's just the lack of respect for unwell patients. The tone from the doctors (on the phone, in person and via text!) I can confirm that this doctor surgery has a poor reputation in Truro and the surrounding area. Their reputation is so negative it's effectively blocking people from accessing the care they need.

  3. Review titled Superb treatment

I had to visit the practice nurses for a dressing to be checked and changed a number of times over a number of weeks, each time I was treated with patience and respect and their kindness was wonderful. Thank you wonderful nurses and staff at Lander Medical practice .

  4. Review titled Just mediocre at best

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I live in Threemilestone and we have a choice of two GP surgeries. if you're with Lander and want to switch to other you are told you can't. and Visa Versa. The lack of choice is depressing. I was in the community last week and the discussion was Lander Medical. The over-riding opinion is that if you have a long term health concern - you're unlikely to get an appointment when needed and then when you see a GP they're minimising, patronising and the village joke is "it's just viral" - even when some people end up in A&E with sepsis symptoms. I feel like it's a concern when you have an entire village who know they can't get an appointment, they know they'll never get the referral, and they know that they won't get taken seriously. Isn't that sad? The saddest thing is knowing that the care you're entitled to is not available. So when you're sick - there is nobody to help you. Would I recommend Lander? no. but when you are told you can't leave the practice - you're stuck there. It's a choice between lack of care or no care at all.

We are very sorry to hear this. If you are registered with Lander, our satellite surgery is at Threemilestone, they are not two separate practices and therefore you cannot leave one to register with the other, you are a registered at both. You may however be seen at whichever site you choose. You are able to register with an alternative practice should you wish. If you feel that you have been treated inappropriately or you would like us to look at your issue, please advise us by writing to ciosicb.letters-landerpractice@nhs.net. It is very difficult to look into issues if we do not know any details.

  5. Review titled Great Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Having ongoing health issues see me in the DR office quite often. The queue at 8am on the phone can be quite frustrating but if you join the online services can usually book on the day online. The receptionists are fab, polite and very helpful. I can always see my own Dr but when they aren't available on the day can see another if I want too. 10/10 for everything to do with this Dr surgery.

  6. Review titled Really impressed

Rated 5 stars out of 5

The phone was answered quickly and the receptionist was friendly, polite and helpful. The Doctor rang me back within an hour and was approachable, listened to my problem and we put a plan in place quickly - a blood test was booked for me the next day. At this blood test the nurse was warm, welcoming and professional and I was seen exactly at my appointment time. I will be able to access my results easily via the online system. Brilliant GP surgery, thank you!

  7. Review titled Recent urgent admission

by Kernow Fiona - Posted on 05 August 2022

I was suffering from acute lower abdominal pain and a slight temperature. My GP practice, Lander Medical, were brilliant and despite phoning on a Friday afternoon, I spoke to an on call GP within 45 minutes and then saw him, face to face an hour later. He contacted the Royal Cornwall Hospital and arranged for me to be seen in the Same Day Surgical Assessment Unit. On arrival there I had a bit of a wait, but was eventually assessed and it was determined I needed to be admitted. A bed was found on the Emergency Surgical Unit and IV antibiotics were started. Early the next morning I had a CT scan. At the ward round later that morning I was told I had a small perforation in my bowel, which would initially be treated conservatively, with iv antibiotics, in the hope it would heal itself. 4 days later I was discharged with oral antibiotics to take for 5 days. Everyone on the Emergency Surgical Unit was absolutely brilliant - kind, patient, caring and went above and beyond, despite being very busy. I would like to convey huge thanks to them and my GP surgery. Well done Royal Cornwall Hospital and Lander Medial Practice in Truro, Cornwall.

  8. Review titled Fantastic after changing from my nominated GP

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 25 May 2022

I have been with Lander for about 6 years and have always seen the same GP and the GP who was assigned to me when I first registered. I had never thought any more of it until I had to see a different GP because my usual one was away on holiday. After seeing the replacement GP I simply could not get over how his attitude and knowledge of my condition was far more advanced than my own GP. I am now fully supported and feel the best I have done in a long time with this GP. I promptly wrote an email to the practice manager requesting my nominated GP be changed to the GP I was feeling supported by and thankfully I was changed to their list. It can be tricky getting on the day appointments because you are to ring at 8am with the rest of Truro so it can take 15-30mins to get through but 95% of the time you can get an appointment with a GP that day. I find the front desk team a bit hit and miss as some are absolutely lovely and some are a little more rude and abrupt but still fulfil their job role. If I am met with one of the abrupt ones I simply mirror their attitude back to them. I would recommend this GP surgery.
