  1. Review titled Great Service

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Kathy Lees - Posted on 10 April 2024

I have been trying to get a GP appointment for 3 days but there has been none available when I have got through by phone. However, on each occasion I have received extremely courteous service along with helpful suggestions and signposting from the receptionists. This included an outreach service appointment being suggested and booked for me at the weekend. I have also had cause to ask for a referral appointment to be changed and, again, have received prompt, helpful and courteous service.

Dear Kathy, Re: Great Service Thank you for taking the time to write a review about the Kelvedon & Feering Health Centre and your recent “Great” service (patient) experience here. We really appreciate your kind words and appreciation of this practice and what we do. We are sorry to hear that it took x3 days for you to receive an appointment, we do have, an advanced nurse practitioner, extended access appointments provided at the weekends and in the evenings, though this maybe elsewhere. It is good to take the opportunity to use these other appointments and utilise them. Where possible we will always endeavour to signpost correctly to suit the patient needs- there is a lot of outside coverage for this if you cannot get a GP appointment at that moment in time, which we appreciate can be frustrating for our patients. It really does boost staff morale when they hear of a patient’s service experience here at the Kelvedon & Feering Health Centre, it makes all the challenging work behind the scenes worthwhile. The staff do work under extreme pressure and in an ever-demanding environment which is not understood or considered. Everyone at the Kelvedon & Feering Health Centre are very passionate about what they do when it comes to the patient’s care and outcomes. All staff always try to help, guide, resolve patient queries and issues brought to their attention. It is good to hear about the positives as well as the negatives, through these comments we learn how to improve and collaborate with our patients to provide the ultimate patient care. This review about your recent visit to us will be shared at the next practice team meeting. We also have the friends & family test cards in the reception area that you can fill in and put in the box of any service experience that you have here, please do fill one in. The NHS friends and family test was created to help service providers and commissioners understand whether patients are happy with the service provided, or where improvements are needed. It is a quick and anonymous way to give your views after receiving NHS care or treatment. Thank you from all the staff here at the Kelvedon & Feering Health Centre & the GP partners.

  2. Review titled Very professional and thorough practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I visited the GP with a concern around a mole. He reassured me it looked benign but immediately called his partner who has an interest in dermatology. Within five minutes I was reassured having been examined under a microscope that everything was ok so no worries. Having had a couple of scares and operations in the past I was relieved but also impressed with their thoroughness and speediness in addressing my concern. I find the staff so friendly and helpful on the phone and do their very best to help. Only once I haven't had an appointment on the same day. sometimes this can happen and is rare as long as you call 8am sharp. I know of many surgeries who do not accommodate patients so quickly and this surgery is one of the best. I would totally recommend this practice and as somebody who has dealt with many practices, this one is very impressive.

  3. Review titled Nice people but not enough of them to provide a service.

Rated 1 star out of 5

4 year old with a temperature of 40+ for 4 days in a row, couldn't get an appointment. We do everything, call at 8 every day, call 111 to try and get in and eventually go to urgent care on the 5th day to get antibiotics for an ear infection. Same month I have a miscarriage, the whole mess gets infected and I end up with endometritis, more days of calling to get an appointment, this time it's 4 weeks to see someone. End up going to urgent care in Colchester to get it sorted. I wouldn't mind if this was unusual but going to Urgent Care in Colchester is the standard practice for our family for all medical issues as we can never get an appointment unless you book 3 weeks in advance. You say it's urgent, the child's sick etc and then they refuse to speak to you and tell you to go to Urgent Care for anything urgent or call ambulance.

Dear Anonymous, Re: Nice people but not enough of them to provide a service. Thank you for taking the time to write a review about the Kelvedon & Feering Health Centre in relation to your service experience. We are sorry to hear that you feel this way and we do understand our patient’s frustration with regards to GP appointments and the availability of these. We would have advised to call NHS111 or go to the UTC on day one. If there were no NHS111 slots left, the UTC would be the next step. Once we are at capacity these would be the next options. We never refuse to speak with our patients, and we endeavour to get to the root cause of the issue and deal with it appropriately or signpost to other services that have been commissioned by NHSE to alleviate pressure from the GP surgeries in general (NHS111/UTC) if we too have reached the limit. At this time of the year, you would have to factor in winter pressures (Nov-Feb) where there would have been an increase of patients calling in to see a GP. If there are no more appointments left at all we will not inundate our GP’s further, but we will liaise with the GP in terms of what is the best way forward if you have given us your case scenario. We hope this sheds a little light on how services work and what other providers are for when GP surgeries have reached their own capacity with appointments. If you would like to speak with the practice manager with regards to all the above, please contact the surgery and leave your details with the receptionists who will pass on the message. Thank you from all the staff here at the Kelvedon & Feering Health Centre & the GP partners.
