  1. Review titled Good practice pleased I chose them

Every time I see a gp they give me good advice. Thought eConsult service which is now the only way in to an appointment is next to useless. I wanted an appointment for a common condition that is not listed on the eConsult platform. I had to say that I had a cough and hope that a GP read the message I left. Service like that let’s a really good surgery down.

Understand this frustration. The eConsult platform is a national IT system, we have no control over this. What you did is the right way to use it. If the exact condition doesn't appear, use a reasonable alternative. We will act on what you write, not the headline at the top.

I recently had a health concern and called the hall grove practice. The reception arranged for my doctor to call me back, and not only did they call quickly, I was seen that very afternoon. I am very pleased with the excellent service from hall grove and parkway surgery.

  4. Review titled Efficient call back service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Sophie De-martin - Posted on 25 April 2024

I requested a call back service and was first contacted by a receptionist and then booked in for a triage gp to call me. This all happened within the same day, was prescribed medication that I was able to collect the same day and overall would describe the experience as very efficient

Thank you for the review. We think the call back service works well. For any patients reading this, be aware that if you call the practice a second time, while waiting for the call back, this removes your original call back request.

We saw or spoke to over 100 people today that asked for urgent on the day help. Several of our doctors worked for 10.5 hours today from 8am until 6.30pm, without a proper break. Unfortunately, despite this, on some days it is impossible to speak to/see every person that asks for an appointment. If there are no more appointments then there are no more appointments, a receptionist can't invent them. No one needs to wait on the phone. There is a call back button you can use.

  7. Review titled Excellent

I joined this practice recently and am very pleased with the care I have received. The reception staff are very patient and did their best to find me an appointment at the earliest opportunity. The doctor I saw was very diligent and did their best to understand the problems I was having - I am feeling much better thanks to them. The level of care I have received here is more than satisfactory and I would wholeheartedly recommend this practice.

Thank you for leaving such a nice review. We see 100's of people everyt day, but unfortunately most people only think to add a review if they have something negative to say. We share these reviews with staff and it makes a difference to our day.

  8. Review titled 13 months and still no treatment

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I am astounded, after working years in the NHS myself that despite reporting the same symptoms over 12 months ago and requesting a CT or MRI scan in August 2023, I still have no diagnosis and am awaiting scans. Today I called to check whether a referral I discussed with a locum before Christmas had been made and was told it was sat on a doctors desk. I was cross and received a text later saying do not display being cross again. The same practice texted me before Christmas to tell me also not to call out emergency services 'to discuss medical issues' as a referral for a scan had been made on the 20th December. My call out was for chest pain, very painful lymph glands and mammary pain. I left work in September because I feel so unwell. If the NHS is in high demand then please provide a referral letter so I can arrange for private diagnostics - payment for my health is not an issue, and the private sector will not book me an appointment without a referral from a GP.!!!

  9. Review titled Normality please

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Will we ever go back to how it used to be at Hall Grove/Parkway? Today I completed an E Consult to request a medication review with my GP. I have Ulcerative Colitis and am higher risk for Bowel Cancer due to my father dying of the disease. I was told to call the Surgery to book an appointment which I did, to be told that there are none available at Hall Grove but I can have a telephone appointment with a Clinical Pharmacist at Spring House. Why is it so difficult to see your own GP now? I dont want to have a telephone appointment with a Pharmacist, I would like to see my GP or have a telephone appointment with him. There comes a point where life has to go back to normal after the Pandemic, in the times I've been in the Surgery there has hardly been anyone in there. Yet the Nurses saw patients throughout the Pandemic.

The situation we are currently in is not due to the Pandemic. The demand for appointments has continued to climb over the last few years and now far surpasses the number of appointments we can offer. Yesterday (Monday 29th January) over 100 patients were consulted on the urgent book on the day list. We also had a locum morning and afternoon who saw 24 patients. A few years ago the number was 70 on a busy day. We now need a 2nd partner working on the duty list all day, this removes that person from being able to offer routine appointments, such as for medication reviews. A few years ago the Government set up Primary Care Networks (PCNs). These are groups of local practices who can employ non-GP health professionals, eg Pharmacists, to take some of the work load off the GPs. As a result many of our medication reviews are done by Pharmacists, who are very good at this. We would very much like to offer a better mix of routine and urgent on the day appointments, and are looking to try to do this. Yesterday, for example, several GPs were seeing patients who had booked in advance. The difficulty is the number of people contacting every day to say they need to speak to a GP that day is currently over whelming. If someone needs a medication review, but also has something they need to specifically speak to their own GP about, please make that clear on the econsult or when you call the surgery. Obviously if that specific GP has no bookable appointments then unfortunately it is limited what the receptionist can offer. All the GPs saw patients through the Pandemic when they needed to be seen. The GPs are working longer hours and seeing more patients than pre-pandemic. Since the pandemic there has been a shift to more patients asking for phone calls rather than face to face. We now leave the choice up to patients, so often the GP lists have a mix, as a result there are fewer patients waiting in the waiting room. I can assure you we are working very hard. Yesterday I worked for 12 hours from 8am until 8pm without a break.

Thank you very much for your very kind message. I will pass it onto our staff. If you have any thoughts on how we could make it easier to understand the system I would appreciate hearing it - if that is possible please drop a note in for Dr Benfield.
