  1. Review titled New Booking System

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 April 2024

I used to feel very grateful that of all my friends and family up and down the country, I was the only one that could ever get a doctor's appointment when it was needed. Now, sadly, Granta has joined the ranks of surgeries with an online booking system and now it's practically impossible to make an appointment. It was so good before and I felt like I was getting really good care. But now, it's like everywhere else. I've always had really good care here, and the team, doctors, pharmacists and reception staff (since the merger) have always been great, and very kind and patient, so this is not a complaint about that. The old system actually worked so well for patients but I imagine, this saves your staff time and money.

  3. Review titled Very poor care

Rated 1 star out of 5

Many things have deteriorated badly here over the last five years or so. For example, this practice apparently no longer uses local anaesthetic for small procedures - numerous patients have been recently told they need to go to A and E if they want anaesthetic. Additionally the practice also has a habit of randomly removing medication from repeat prescription lists in ‘purge’ fashion, without a consultation or even ever having met the patient. Patients are then told unexpectedly at Boots they have to see the GP. Patients then face a desperate cycle of trying to get GP appointments, something that can take weeks, and re-referrals to consultants (who can have waiting lists of years rather than months) in order to stabilise their health. Sometimes this leaves people very unwell and/or trying to find hundreds of pounds to see their former (good quality) GPs from the same practice who now work at a local private hospital (but these patients then have to pay for private prescriptions and the full price for medication, which can run into hundreds of pounds). If you can’t afford this, you are left to struggle. In this way, care at Granta Medical Practice has become chaotic, unprofessional, and occasionally even dangerous. Patients seem to be just about tolerated at best and at worst held in contempt. I attend the Patient Participation Group and the practice management team seem to be in complete denial about quite how bad the situation has become, blaming everyone and everything but themselves. I don’t know how they sleep at night.

  4. Review titled Very disappointing and worrying

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I have requested an appointment only 3 times in 5 years, yesterday being the third time. First time at face-to - face appointment meds needed and prescribed, at 2nd, a telephone consultation, again meds prescribed. Clearly I am not a time-waster. Yesterday, the third occasion, I had to recount my symptoms which are no better and if anything have worsened, to a receptionist who would not book a gp appointment, but said that someone called a clinical pharmacist would phone me at an unspecified time, and then they would discuss with gp if necessary. I was not really happy about this but accepted the arrangement, even though a diagnosis by a gp would have seemed the more appropriate course of action. I might not have minded so much if the pharmacist had actually called me. Nobody at all has called or messaged me and it is now Saturday morning! I'm 67, and generally very fit, but this approach even at a busy time, really does not bode well for the future! Can a gp please call me first thing on Monday 19th Drcember?

  5. Review titled This is a terrible service

Rated 1 star out of 5

We were charged incorrectly by the NHS for something that my wife received there. We tried many many times to get somebody from the pharmacy to admit to this and to notify the NHS. We were given the run around numerous times, with the switchboard telling us that the pharmacist is not there but would call us when he is back. He never called. We ended up driving to the pharmacy several times to speak to somebody. After a lot of effort, a letter was sent from the pharmacy to the NHS but without follow up. In the meantime, the NHS fined us for a late payment, at which point we realised that we are wasting our time and ended up paying the original fee and the penalty. This whole experience costed us a lot of time and anxiety, and whoever runs this place may want to think about it.

  6. Review titled No patient care, just a call centre

Rated 1 star out of 5

by chris walsh - Posted on 14 December 2022

My parents have been using Shelford Health Centre for over 30 years. Now at a critical stage in their lives and health, there is no care or support. Barely any service. Wrong medications, no face to face visits within a week, doctors don't know patient history and recommend that 'you go to Addenbrookes A&E at 2am' rather than try and get to see a doctor here in the day time, within the week.

  7. Review titled Can’t get a appointment

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Linda walker - Posted on 29 November 2022

I received a nhs letter about cervical screening, but 2 attempts of coming in to Shelford centre and speaking to reception no free appointments. Received a 2nd letter reminding me. But again no appointments when I came in November. After having treatment after previous appointments in the past a bit concerned. Great Health Centre, lovely staff and doctors The centre has been so good to me over the last 20yrs.

  8. Review titled What a shambles

Rated 1 star out of 5

I queued on the phone for 56 minutes to be told no GP slots any time in the next two weeks, and that 'computer won't book beyond two weeks' In other words, no appointments, ever. What is the point of merging practices such as Shelford and Sawston, if patients can only visit a single practice? Why not have an online booking system?

  9. Review titled Useless pharmacy

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by Christina O'Donnell - Posted on 03 November 2022

I came out of hospital in August, three months ago. Since then they've messed up my prescription on about 5 occassions. With old favourates like: not sending my prescription to the pharmacy, randomly not including medication, giving me medication in half the dose (causing unexplained pain for a week). And replying with classic defences like: blaming it on the dispensing pharmacy, blaming it on an unrelated doctor appointment, not answering the phone, plainly being combative, or my personal favourite: blaming it on me! I don't know who or what the problem is over at sawston, but I don't really care. I don't think it's difficult to maintain a list of prescriptions for each patient and send them out at the right time, but the Granta pharmacy has somehow managed to make this hard for themselves. I just want out. So I'm going to be applying for a different GP tomorrow.

  10. Review titled Terrible with my repeat prescriptions

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 31 August 2022

I have Multiple Sclerosis and have needed to use catheters for over a decade. This is an essential item without which I would end up in hospital. Almost every month there is a problem with this item and I have to make at least one call to the practice or their in -practice pharmacy to get them to prescribe or dispense the item and more than one trip to collect my repeat prescriptions because the catheters or other items aren’t there when they are supposed to be. In June I ordered them in good time but due to ‘human error’ the practice pharmacy didn’t order them. The options they gave me were to delay going on holiday or to have them sent to a pharmacy near where I was holidaying. I rejected this as I would have to go and collect a large sack of catheters with the friends we were staying with or be stranded at the other end of the country without them if something went wrong.Eventually, they did manage to get them to me on time when I insisted despite initially saying it was impossible. In July, the pharmacy randomly delivered my repeat prescriptions - I always collect them and hadn’t asked them to deliver, however the catheters were missing so I had to ring the pharmacy and have another stressful call to get the item I needed for my MS. This month when I tried to order the catheters they had been taken off my repeat prescription with no explanation so again I had to call the practice to sort it out. Whether they believe in miracles and think MS can be cured I don’t know. The prescription clerk said it was ‘human error’ again, did not apologise- they never do- and agreed to put a note for a clinician, but refused my request for someone to explain how it happened. The attitude of some staff at the practice is unkind and disrespectful to patients, the repeat prescription service in my experience is woefully disorganised and there are a high number of mistakes by staff which the practice seems to think is acceptable. It is stressful and humiliating to have to ring up so often to beg for catheters and to be met by an uncaring response
