    Requested text message communication as I’m Autistic. However, a gp phoned me. The call cut out before I could speak. It happened a second time. The voicemail said ‘ call back on Monday’. Let’s hope I survive till Monday! I tried calling the surgery….no replies. Rubbish service .

    I received a same day call back from a GP; not a paramedic practitioner or nurse. It is important for me to note this as I have recently moved from a city, where in the last 5 years I have not spoken with a doctor during any interaction with my previous surgery, let alone see one in person. During my consultation, the GP discussed my symptoms over the phone. The GP was reassuring and explained my symptoms and their assessment clearly so I was able to understand and booked a follow up in person appointment. This again shocked me as I have never received such a standard of primary care living in the city. Very impressed with the overall service and an evidently well run practice.

    I was the main carer for someone who was terminally ill and had previous experience of caring for them in another surgery. There was unfortunately a clear difference in care from other gp surgery, and not in a good way. The main issue was the speed at which the surgery responded and how they appeared to triage calls. There were many occasions where it was much quicker and a better service to phone the out of hours doctor. I don't think that should be the case. I was really disappointed with the support when things got serious. It involved multiple calls and waiting until the end of the day or much longer for consultations despite calling up first thing, when local pharmacies were closed and medication was required urgently. Other members of family reported calling up and being given a call before the terminally ill person for a much more minor issue, which left me lacking faith in the triage system. If you have a serious illness my advice would be to avoid. I also found some of the doctors to appear to be very abrupt given the seriousness of the situation and i didnt feel particularly supported or particularly listened to as a carer. I recognise there are larger circumstances at play, but don't understand the triage system here or lack of compassion. I certainly didn't feel valued as a carer and generally felt that they weren't welcoming of questions or much a discussion about what was happening. It very much felt like lets get to the end of this appointment as quickly as possible for them, which is not fair when illness is very serious. Overall, I felt really unsupported by the surgery as a carer and this was not my experience at all at the previous surgery. It is hard enough to care for someone is dying and i think at the very basic end care should be compassionate and sensitive to the individual dying and their carers. Sadly, i don't feel this happened in this circumstance.
