  1. Review titled Blood test

    by indiahp78 - Posted on 28 August 2023

When I attended my blood test appointment . I was called in and told that one of the blood test bottles used for the blood test was not stocked in this practice , so I would have to book a blood test with another health centre on another day. I felt disappointed and frustrated as I was not told this information before my test. To have this blood test done I have cancelled a few different appointments and had booked annual leave from work for the blood test as I live far from here. If this information was better communicated I would not have to wait to see when I can book annual leave to have a blood test done, this just increases the waiting time for me and the practice. I would have liked to be better communicated so I can make arrangements accordingly and not waste my time.

Dear Service User, Firstly let me apologise that your day was not utilised in the best way, I can understand your disappointment and frustration. You made the effort to book this appointment taking annual leave and living a distance from the practice and not having test that you needed to be done on that day because the blood test bottle was out of stock. The blood test that was requested by the GP is not one that is done routinely in the GP practice due to this it is not blood test bottles that we usually stock. In the future we have told GPs if requesting this type of blood test to enquire with the nursing team if the blood test bottles are available and if not to order or redirect patient to have blood test done at the hospital. I hope the next time you visit the practice your experience will be more positive.

  2. Review titled I was very happy with the service

    by capricornusqc53 - Posted on 04 September 2023

I was experiencing dizziness and nausea. I phoned the Gadhvi Practice and the person taking the call was extremely helpful and told me that the doctor would call me back. I did receive a phone call and also had an appointment that day. I was very grateful as, based on examination and enquiry, the doctor arranged a blood test which I will soon be attending. I was very happy with the service and the doctor was kind and efficient. Great service.

  3. Review titled 6 weeks of cold/cough.

by Aunty Sue - Posted on 02 October 2023

I had a face to face appointment with the practice's senior pharmacist, who expertly examined and investigated, gave advice and prescribed appropriately. He also had a blood test taken, for other purposes - ie are my muscle aches a rare side effect of blood pressure nedicatuon? - and got my doctor to authorise a lung x-ray.

  4. Review titled Checking health?

by VBS - Posted on 05 September 2023

I was there to get a health check including blood tests. The nurse checked my height, weight, blood pressure and asked lifestyle questions and decided that I am very healthy and did not did any other test. They didn’t do bloods. I understand the general practices have a tight budget but I am a tax payer and deserve attention as everyone else. How can they possibly know I am healthy? The nurse said come if you have any symptoms. For me that is lack of judgement and care. I feel the place is also run down, untidy and not too clean.

by Joy lewis - Posted on 11 August 2023

I was given prompt attention when it seems I was forgotten. Immediately I reminded the receptionist I was there waiting. I was immediately called in and attended to for blood test. I was also apologised to for keeping me waiting. For me that was amazing.

  7. Review titled NHS Health Check

    by IP74 - Posted on 28 August 2023

I had: -weight checked -blood pressure checked Questions: - Family history of heart disease, diabetes, smoking, exercise Three minutes! No review of HRT and menopause. No review of skin problems related to HRT. No review of intestine/bowel problems from one year ago. No cholesterol or blood sugar tests. No check for breast cancer. No breathing tests, heart monitoring, liver or kidney function tests. What was the point of loosing two hours pay and paying for two bus journeys? A waste of everyone’s time and money.

Dear Service User, I'm sorry that you felt that the Over 40 NHS health Check was a waste of time. When the practice sends out the invites by text message we also attach a link so patients can read what the the health check involves, if this information was unavailable to you below is what it entails "The NHS Health Check is a free check-up of your overall health. It can tell you whether you're at higher risk of getting certain health problems, such as: heart disease diabetes kidney disease stroke During the check-up you'll also discuss how to reduce your risk of these conditions and dementia. If you're over 65, you will also be told the signs and symptoms of dementia to look out for. Who is the NHS Health Check for? The check is for people who are aged 40 to 74 who **do not** have any of the following pre-existing conditions: heart disease chronic kidney disease diabetes high blood pressure (hypertension) atrial fibrillation transient ischaemic attack inherited high cholesterol (familial hypercholesterolemia) heart failure peripheral arterial disease stroke currently being prescribed statins to lower cholesterol previous checks have found that you have a 20% or higher risk of getting cardiovascular disease over the next 10 years You should have regular check-ups if you have one of these conditions. Your care team will be able to give you more information about this. How will the NHS Health Check help me? You will have your individual cardiovascular risk (risk of getting conditions related to the heart or circulation) calculated and explained to you. While the cardiovascular risk levels vary from person to person, everyone is at risk of developing heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and some types of dementia. At your NHS Health Check you will be given advice on how to prevent them. Your NHS Health Check can detect potential health problems before they do real damage. **Do NHS Health Checks work?** The health conditions picked up by the NHS Health Check are, when added together, the biggest cause of preventable deaths in the UK, with around 7 million people affected by them. In its first 5 years, the NHS Health Check is estimated to have prevented 2,500 heart attacks or strokes. This is the result of people receiving treatment after their Health Check. The latest research suggests that: For every 30 to 40 people having an NHS Health Check, 1 Person is diagnosed with high blood pressure For every 80 to 200 people having a Health Check, 1 person is diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. For every 6 to 10 people having an NHS Health Check, 1 person is identified as being at high risk of cardiovascular disease. " If you would like to discuss any of the issue that you stated in your review which was not part of the NHS Health Check please make an appointment with the GPs at the practice who will be happy to discuss any concerns you have. The health care assistant is not clinician trained in the areas that you have highlighted so would be unable to provide any support. I hope this explains more clearly NHS Health Check and what to expect.
