  1. Review titled After care did not support my recovery

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 June 2025

Firstly, I am very grateful to the Dr and Nurse I saw initially as they sent me to hospital instantly. Without this I may not be here. After 9 days in hospital I was able to go home with medication and regular check ups with my specialists at hospital and ongoing support from hospital and GP with new health problems. My Cardiologist explained that my GP will monitor my BP and when it’s managed he said my GP will let me know I’m safe to drive again, usually within a few weeks. after 6 weeks -I asked if I could drive again, my BP was managed-for a couple of weeks without any changes. I was told they wanted to get confirmation from my specialists- which I did not make any issue with, I just patiently waited another week. But no replies back from the specialists. I then spent a further 5 weeks being told they were getting confirmation from all my specialists even though they received all my hospital notes and letters which held all the up to date information. I reiterated that it said the information they needed in my notes. They received information back from one, but they then said they needed clarification from my eye doctor- I explained that I’ve been discharged from them and again it says this in the notes, but they continued to say they were waiting for it. I went for an eye test which cost £30 (a very small amount in comparison to the taxi costs for getting to work and apps). GP said-no answer from the ophthalmologist and told to be patient again, so I asked my optician to send over their findings to my GP. I then spent another week being the middle man between the surgery and optician, the surgery could not give me the email to ensure the optician had sent it to the correct place, so it was not being received. Eventually I refused to do the chasing and the receptionist at the surgery called the opticians and exchanged email details. Within minutes they had the results- which showed no issue (which was already clarified by the hospital months ago). This was yesterday, and they still can’t give me the confirmation to drive. They said they can’t just drop the GP from doing his appointments to look at some documents. But I’ve had to wait and I’ve had to have extra stress for 6 weeks which has been completely unnecessary- all due to poor communication with other parts of the nhs, as well as just not reading the notes. I could understand a couple of extra weeks but 6? A cost of living crisis, I’m trying to work and I can’t get there without a huge cost in travel on top of my car expenses while it’s sat on the drive. It has stopped me doing things and made me feel very isolated, which has been tough when I have new health problems to consider now and more than ever I need to drive to get around. Very very disappointed in how I’ve been treated by my GP Surgery. GPs should support patients after they have through serious health problems and this should be both with physical and mental health and not hold a person back or cause financial strain.

  3. Review titled Improved system

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Tried the Patches system at 8am connected straight away. Really liked the questions and the amount of space to enable a more detailed response. This is much better than the old system when you didn’t have time to be specific with different symptoms. The more information you input must help practitioners prioritise the most urgent cases. I received a message confirming I would be contacted the same day and within 45 minutes a doctor rang me and made an appointment for the following day. I don’t think you can expect better service than that.

I cannot fault the service I get at this surgery, particularly for my children. They are always treated with care and respect. One of the nurse clinicians has treated my children on several occasions and she always makes the experience as gentle and easy as possible. Thank you

  5. Review titled Could be better

It's hit and miss which dr you get and now you have no chance of getting a face to face appointment. I think they should make an effort to check up on vulnerable patients and patients with on going health conditions

Initially a bit difficult to set up but once setup easy to use and I have a telephone consultation with GP later that day to start a course of treatment. Patchs appears to work well

I discussed a skin lesion which was concerning me with a Receptionist in person. She made a Patchs request on my behalf ( I have not yet used Patchs), and I received call back from a doctor before I had arrived back home. The outcome was a face to face appointment with him within an hour. Excellent service!

  10. Review titled Terrible if you actually need an appointment!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 March 2025

My gp surgery says you I now only get an appointment on patches. This doesn’t ever, ever work for me. There is never an appointment and i am terribly ill with serious illnesses that needs urgent care. They say I cannot ring for an appointment any more. They say the order comes from above. Terrible choice for vulnerable patients like me. I will have to try to change gp.

Dear Patient, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I am sorry that you feel that the online consultation system, Patchs, is a terrible choice for vulnerable patients like yourself. Patches (or similar) is being rolled out nationally as part of a government initiative. For patients who are not digitally able, our reception team is available to help. If you ever need assistance, please let us know, and a receptionist will gladly complete a patchs request on your behalf—ensuring you receive the same standard of care without any additional stress. If you would like to discuss any issues further, please do contact us. Yours faithfully, The Management Team Fir Park Medical Centre
