Last week I tried a number of times to get an appointment, the last time I was told to go to Teddington Memorial Hospital, which I did yesterday, the doctor sent me medication, and told me to get the next appointment with my GP, I tried again today, no chance.

Dear Lynn Garnham, I'm sorry that you have not been able to get an appointment. We are informed by our patients that we have very good appointment availability, and we have patients who have multiple appointments each week. You need to ensure that you are online just before 2pm (the day before) or 8am on the day. Of course, like all surgeries we cannot see everyone, and this is why we have 111, Teddington Memorial Hospital and Pharmacies to support us to care for patients. Thank you, Fairhill Medical Practice.

The so called GP I saw today, had the most unprofessional aggressive approach yet to be seen by me from any NHS GP. He made sure I feel ashamed and guilty that have made an appointment to be able to bring my ill child to him! After torturous attempts to get an appointment from 8 am, when after lots of fights and stress got an appointment for 11 am to see him only to be told off by him! We spent 5 minutes in his room and he spent literally 30 seconds to check my child's vital signs( while he was telling me off) and 4 minutes continuing telling us off why we have come and how he could be in Barbados instead of Kingston if he could cure cold! I did tell him my concerns and why I felt it was appropriate to bring my ill child to see a GP and other concerning issues that are important for my child's health to no avail. I am still very concerned for my child's health as he did not even bothered to check him properly. If he dare to treat me in this aggressive rude threatening manner, as a long standing patient of the practice that barely needed to use their service, and be in medical field myself, I dread to think how he treats other patients who don't have a voice or any knowledge in this field. and for the record: your unprofessional ,threatening, manner will not put me off from bringing my ill child to see a doctor next time!! What does put me off though, is the extremely stressful booking procedure to see a doctor who is not doing his job proeprly and is not bothered carrying our a basic proper investigations to address the concerns. I am more concerned now for my child's health than before visiting this so called Doctor! The whole booking system, management and doctors need a huge and quick improvement which I really hope they do as this can be a lovely local family doctor practice in the area. At the moment is a few million light years away from it.

  3. Review titled Fairhill - doing their very best in difficult circumstances

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Andy Lynch - Posted on 07 January 2023

I have been on the Fairhill patient list for 25 years, and over that time have had excellent treatment and always found the team there helpful and courteous. Like many public services these days, it cannot be easy operating a GP surgery, and I can see how much effort the Fairhill team put in serving their patients. Yes, it is not easy to book an appointment. However, with ever lengthening patient lists and workloads, and continuing difficulties in recruiting GPs, makes the surgery's job very difficult. But, these are issues that need addressing at the national rather than local level. As one of the other feedback commentators has mentioned, Fairhill compares very favorably against other surgeries, and I agree. Keep up the good work Fairhill team!

  4. Review titled Cannot get an appointment

I received a message that I needed a medication review. I tried to book my appointment on line but it said there were no appointments available. I went into the surgery to ask about booking a non urgent appointment. The receptionist spoke to me from the back of the reception area. She was asking me all my personal Information which I had to shout for everyone to hear as the receptionist was far away and there was a plastic screen between us. I had to repeat several times what the appointment was for. I was told there were no appointments available for her to book and I should book online. I explained I had tried but there were no appointments available to book online. She then asked me for my email address which I again had to repeat as she could not hear me properly. After which she said she had sent me a link and I could book an appointment online. She had sent me a patient access link, and didn’t seem to understand that I already had one. She then told me again to book online. What a complete waste of my time, I still have no appointment and yet I need a medication review. I had to reset my patient access password as she had sent me a new link and did not understand at all that I already had an active account. Surely she should have been able to see that this is how I have been requesting my repeat medication and also booking my previous appointments. There was no privacy at the desk. The receptionist could not hear me as she was too far away and everyone could hear my personal information. I have been with this surgery for 25 years and have seen the service gradually going downhill. I know all GPS are stretched but this was the last straw. It was an example of a complete lack of basic understanding as to what my problem was. No empathy that I could not get an appointment. Setting up a patient access account for me that I already had. A total lack of privacy. All which left me coming away totally frustrated and still with no appointment.

Thank you for your comments. We are sorry that you feel that the service you have received was not satisfactory and we always welcome feedback to allow us to develop further and meet the needs of our patients. It’s not acceptable for our team to be asking you details from the back of the reception and feedback has been given to the team to ensure they are serving patients from our front desk. We ask patients what the appointment is for so that we can direct them to the appropriate staff member in this case medication reviews can be completed by our Pharmacist and we can usually book appointments within 1 to 2 days however, these appointments can only be booked via the telephone or in person at the surgery not online. I’m sorry you were not informed of this whilst in the practice and again feedback has been given to the team. The practice has a complaints procedure in place to deal with any concerns about the practice and the practice is very happy to formally investigate your complaint. We would advise you to contact the Practice Manager. Thank you Fairhill Medical Practice.
