    My son has suffered with ear infections since he was 6 months old, he is now 17 months old. Every visit we make to the doctors is about an ear infection and is marked on his record as we are working to an ENT referral. This morning we called to schedule an appointment as again, he has a suspected ear infection. Appointment given, call ended. Ten minutes later I receive a cancellation text and that he had been referred to a pharmacy under the new laws that pharmacists can look at earache in children. Whilst this is great, the individual who cancelled the appointment was the GP manager, who did not look at the bigger picture, did not review my sons medical records before cancelling his appointment altogether and fobbed us along to a pharmacist. GP managers are not doctors. It is so important to remember that. Receptionists need to take notice of the details you are relaying on the phone to them before something is discarded without discussion. This has happened twice whereby the surgery has missed infection in my son and it resulted in hospitalisation. I am seething that this system has operated on someone that is not medically trained not having the initiative to review medical records before cancelling an appointment without any conversation with myself. Furthermore, I spent just under an hour in total booking the appointment when lines opened, and trying to get it back again when it was cancelled. The appointment itself, 45 minutes late to be seen. I’ve had wonderful experiences with this GP surgery, but this series of events is a real let down.

    The Desford Medical Centre provides villagers with an excellent service. The staff and doctors go 'over and above' to care for their patients and have all worked and still work extremely hard throughout the pandemic putting others first before themselves. I have visited several surgeries and this one is by far the best I have ever been to and the staff have been extremely supportive through some difficult times.
