  1. Review titled Bad Practice

Rated 1 star out of 5

After nine phone calls and not able to get an appointment. I had no choice but to go to a walk-in centre to get seen. Then eventually getting a scan , having to go to the same procedure to get results. I’ve still not got them . The receptionist has just hung up on me. I am understandably very frustrated and concerned about my results which the receptionist should have taken into account. I understand that all calls are recorded, please listen back to this recording and tell if that was justified.

I am sorry to hear of your frustration, and assure you we are doing our best to accommodate all of our patients needs. Online appointments are available daily, however they do get booked by patients very quickly. Please continue to try this method or give us another call and advise the Receptionists that you have been trying for some time to book in with us and we will do our very best to organise an appointment for you. Kind regards, Practice Manager

  3. Review titled Overall, a great surgery

Rated 5 stars out of 5

After attending an appointment a couple of months ago, I’ve had several blood test and review appointments over the last few months. I’ve found it easy to book an appointment online (you have to be quick though!) and always seen on time. Blood test results have been returned the same day and a follow up appointment booked the following day. Staff friendly and professional.

  4. Review titled Lack of empathy

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 August 2023

After plucking up the courage to make a call about my increasing anxiety and extremely low mood due to Fibromyalgia & Mental health issues. The doctor seemed arrogant and rushed through the call and was quite insensitive to my current struggles, i felt more anxious after the call than i did before, was told to contact the crisis team which are mostly of little help too these days. Medications i have been prescribed over the past few months have caused worsening symptoms with little education from doctors and to truly listen to a patients wishes. I was worried about taking further medication that would increase my symptoms but was dismissed and told to listen to the advice and medication advised. I try to avoid making appointments now unless i really need too. Will be looking for another surgery I will say the reception staff are very friendly and have always been supportive but a little tlc and empathy from medical professionals to its vulnerable patients would be nice.

  5. Review titled Rotten appointment system

Rated 1 star out of 5

Unable to get through, unable to book on line, over complicated system of who you can see and when for a medication review, blood tests or issue, resulting in multiple visits and attempts to contact the surgery (which no doubt adds to the fact that you can not get through or an appointment) Finally wrong blood tests taken at last visit resulting in having to try to get through to the surgery again and being unable to. I really wish they would look at their patient demographics and work out a fairer and simpler system that meets the needs of the community they serve.

  6. Review titled Great consultation

Rated 4 stars out of 5

Saw one of their registrars; who was on time, listened patiently, examined me thoroughly, requested investigations and even gave me a prescription for my other problem. I would definitely ask to see one of their many registrars in future, with no hesitation.

  7. Review titled No self check in, no appointments available

Rated 1 star out of 5

To get an appointment in the morning is a total joke! Forget about calling them, you wont get throough. Best to register in person, as sometimes online booking crashes. They used to have a self check-in screen but that does not work (the parking system does). To put it simply, computer says no. No appointments. No means no. If you're bothered, go to AnE.

Dear Patient, Firstly, we apologise that you were not happy with the service. We would like to assure you that although we are short of 1 GP and 1 Practice Nurse and are struggling to recruit through no lack of trying we are still offering more appointments than we did at the height of the pandemic. Between October and December 2020 we offered a total of 11,341 appointments. At this point in time we had 5 GP Partners working 16 days a week between them. For the same period last year we offered an additional 1069 appointments but only have the equivalent to 11.5 GP days per week and are down 35 hours per week practice nursing time. We are also having a similar issue with incoming phone calls. Between October to December 2019 the practice was averaging 5457 incoming telephone calls per month. In the same period of time in 2022 the practice is now averaging 10,764 incoming telephone calls per month. We have employed more reception hours, had 3 additional telephone lines fitted and introduced an automated system but with no extra financial help available to us we are restricted in what else we can do to increase capacity. We fully understand that it is sometimes difficult to get an appointment, and this is very frustrating for our patients and the practice. We hope the figures above show you that we are trying our best with the limited resources we have available to us but throughout the whole NHS demand at present is outstripping supply. Kin regards Sharon Atherton Practice Manager

  9. Review titled Terrible

Rated 1 star out of 5

Trying to see anyone in this GP or even have someone call me back is a joke. This isn't the first time I've experienced this with this GP. The latest one, I was told I needed to take a blood test and that if I get a call from them, it means that they've found something in my blood test. I received a call about it, so I assume that they've found something as they said they needed to speak to me in person to discuss it - except they didn't give me a slot immediately. I was asked to call back on a special number that skips the waiting list to try to get a slot. I called from 8am sharp and there were already no slots left. Called a different number that goes through their reception to explain the situation but all I was told is "call back tomorrow". I don't understand why they can't tell me when I can see them so they can discuss what they've found in my blood test instead of trying to get a slot that's non-existent even within the timeframe of 8am - 8:10am. Terrible!

Since the commencement of the pandemic in 2020 we have seen incoming telephone calls into the practice rise by 97%. Between October to December 2019 the practice was averaging 5457 incoming telephone calls per month. In the same period of time in 2022 the practice is now averaging 10,764 incoming telephone calls per month. We have employed more reception hours, had 3 additional telephone lines fitted and the automated booking system but with no extra financial help available to us we are restricted in what else we can do to increase capacity. At this point in time we had 5 GP Partners working 16 days a week between them. For the same period so far this year we have offered 12,410 appointments an additional 1069 appointments, but only have the equivalent to 11.5 GP days per week and are down 35 hours per week practice nursing time. We have been recruiting for 12 months with no success due to the national shortage of clinically trained staff. We fully understand that it is sometimes difficult to get an appointment, and this is very frustrating for our patients and the practice. We hope the figures above show you that we are working harder than ever and trying our best with the limited resources we have available to us but throughout the whole NHS demand at present is outstripping supply and unfortunately we are no exception . If you would like to discuss this further please contact the management team. Sharon Atherton Practice Manager
