  1. Review titled very rude staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

This GP practice used to be good, but now It's the worst, the receptionists are really rude, a couple of them are kind but the rest are very very rude, they make it impossible to get an appointment, it feels like calling their home for charity. Because of one receptionist who unlucky for me always picked up my calls I had to wait for 3 weeks for an appointment while pregnant as she always said we don't give appointments for this problem thinking she was a doctor, it turned out to be an infection that was dangerous for my baby, and still always the same when needing an appointment. doctors are kind and considerate but receptionists (not all of them but most of them) are the worst. It is disappointing that doctors are ready to help but receptionists are the ones who make your life difficult. I wouldn't recommend this GP practice to anyone.

Dear Patient, Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that the surgery did not meet your expectations. Our reception team use a care navigation system to signpost patients to the most appropriate person in our team. We also offer same day routine appointments on most days so I am surprised to hear that you were not offered an appointment for three weeks. Unfortunately as you have not supplied your details I am unable to investigate your complaint further but I will review our processes to see if improvements can be made. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss your complaint further. Elaine Smith Practice Manager

  2. Review titled Horrible Experience

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 December 2023

I have had consistently negative experiences with the reception staff at Bradford Student Health Services, despite no longer being a student and now a United Kingdom taxpayer resident. Although this facility is meant to support students, the lack of empathy and understanding from the staff is particularly disappointing, especially for someone like me who suffers from a long-term illness. Getting an appointment is overly difficult as the reception staff often act more like gatekeepers than facilitators. As a patient with a chronic condition, I feel bullied and shamed for my illness, which is deeply distressing. My daily life is adversely affected by this situation, making visits to the surgery a source of anxiety and dread, rather than a place to seek relief or advice. Even routine procedures like ordering repeat medications are fraught with complications. Prescriptions often don't arrive on time, and there's a lack of communication when issues arise. Calls for information typically result in rude responses or outright shouting from the staff. If I could, I would rate this practice with negative stars.

Dear patient. Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations on your recent visit. We usually offer routine same day appointments with our reception team using a care navigation tool which assists them when signposting patients to the most appropriate person. Most practices use this system. I am sorry if you feel that this is inappropriate or gatekeeping. I am also sorry that you have had issues when requesting repeat prescriptions. These can be ordered online if preferred. Unfortunately we have been experiencing a lot of medication shortages recently, this is not practice specific but is a national problem. When this happens there can be delays. In respect of the receptionists being rude/shouting I would be grateful if you could contact me so that I can investigate this further. 3. Review titled Fantastic Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Since registering with this practice three years I have had nothing but good experiences. Reception staff are polite and helpful and I feel like I’m listened to by the GP’s. I have always been offered an appointment that is convenient for me and have usually been offered an appointment either same day or within a few days which was something I couldn’t get at my previous practice. I also struggled to get my prescriptions on time at my old practice, this doesn’t happen here, my medication request is accepted without issue and then delivered within a day or so. A big thank you to everyone who works at the practice your efforts are appreciated.

  4. Review titled very bad experience

had intermittent nausea and fainting symptoms, i called the student clinic, after narrating my symptoms, the customer service rep's only response was "there is nothing for you". not only was i shocked to hear this but had to fight with him on the phone before he booked an appointment for me in another facility. In March, i called the facility to complain of continuous bleeding for 12 days and again no good response was given, to even get an appointment was hell as customer rep claims i have to wait for more than a week. obviously there is something wrong somewhere but nobody to help me, now i live in constant of fear of even having a headache why still in this school. This is not how i envisioned the health system to work here. very frustrating and disappointing

Dear Patient, I am very sorry to hear that you have had a disappointing experience. I am not entirely sure that your review is meant for our Practice? We do not have any male receptionists and can usually offer an appointment within 24 to 48 hours if not sooner. Unfortunately, as you have not disclosed your full details, I am unable to investigate further however, please do not hesitate to contact me via our reception team should you wish to discuss this further. Kind regards Elaine Smith Practice Manager

  5. Review titled Substandard practice

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I visited this clinic for my first time as a new international student in October 2022. I walked in without a prior booking as I was experiencing chest pain that wouldn't go away and painful lymphnodes. I am grateful that they accepted me in after an hour of waiting. When I entered the doctor's room, the doctor just asked me what brought me. As I explained myself he was not interested with what I was saying as he was just busy on the computer, no eye contact, nothing. The doctor just ended on telling me to come again to see a nurse for a test and was not interested to hear any other complaints I had apart from the chest pain. I did not feel welcome and as a new international student with just three weeks in Bradford, I felt horrible and helpless. He told me to go to the reception for the next booking. The doctor did not ask about my immediate health needs nor shown interest to hear them. I left the consultation room without my immediate need being addressed. Again at the reception, I was booked a date that would be hard for me to show up for my next appointment. I was not given an opportunity to choose the right date and time that would work both for the clinic and me for my next appointment. I just accepted their booking and left knowing that I wouldn't turn up. People like me find it extremely hard to come forward for a medical help for various reasons. Finally when you have gathered your courage to show up and you don't get the assistance you needed, it is quite demotivating. I wish this clinic can be more welcoming, supportive, inclusive and understanding when working with people with different background than theirs. Up until this time my medical problems are unsorted and do not know whether I should return to this clinic or not. I wish they could serve us a little more better and provide the same level of quality for all.

Dear Patient I am very sorry to hear that you were not happy with the consultation that you had in October with one of our GP’s. As you have chosen to write your complaint anonymously, I cannot look at it in greater detail however you have stated that you were seen by a GP within an hour of presenting to the practice having no appointment previously booked. Your appointment would have been assigned to an urgent appointment slot due to the nature of your symptoms. In the UK all or most GP practices have a ‘one problem one appointment’ policy, this is to ensure patient safety as the GP is working to a tight schedule and needs to ensure that each health concern is addressed appropriately. We do offer longer appointments and advise patients that have more than one problem to book a 20-minute appointment. As you were seen as an emergency this option wouldn’t have been given to you although I do appreciate that in your home country this may be very different so I can understand why you felt that your expectations were not met. GP’s do need to spend a certain amount of time on the computer during consultations this can be looking at a patient’s past medical history, ongoing medical conditions or registration questionnaire to ensure they have all the relevant information needed to provide patients with the best care and treatment and to see whether a patient has any ongoing health concerns that may be linked to the patient presentation. Occasionally they will also need to complete templates or make referrals during the consultation however I will speak to all our GP’s about the importance of communication with patients during consultations so that they make the patient aware of what they are doing on the computer and why. You also mention that you were asked to book a further appointment with the nurse for tests this will be to identify the cause of your chest pain and is a standard request. The reception team are here to book appointments that are convenient to you wherever possible. In usual circumstances the first available appointment will be offered however this may not always be convenient to the patient in which case it is up to the patient to request an alternative appointment that may better suit their needs. It also stops an appointment being wasted if you accept it knowing that you will not be able to attend. I do appreciate that for some patients it can be hard to visit their GP Practice, but I can assure you that we provide the same quality care for all our patients regardless of their background, we do this by implementing policies and measures that meet the diverse needs of our population ensuring that none are placed at a disadvantage over others. I hope that I have addressed your concerns appropriately however please do not hesitate to contact our reception team on 01274 371380 should you wish me to investigate your complaint further.
