  1. Review titled Great practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

A very efficient service! I used the e consult function which meant i could receive treatment the same day I completed the online form, my needs were met very quickly. Would 100% recommend to friends and family - staff also lovely and very helpful, thank you for serving the community so well against all odds ( ie lack of funding and time) .

  2. Review titled Repeat Prescription Process Very Confusing

Rated 2 stars out of 5

I have been told three different stories for how to do a repeat prescription. Shockingly cumbersome and slow. Why if the doctor wants me to stay on the medication for at least six months, do I have to do a repeat prescription every 28 days?

Repeat Prescriptions: You can reorder your regular prescriptions using one of the three options below: Via Patient Access or using the NHS App - you will need to register to use this service if you haven't already. By posting the prescription re-order slip to the surgery. Completing a prescription request form at the practice Please do not call the surgery to request a repeat prescription. We cannot process prescription requests over the phone. Please allow at least 4 working days for your prescription to be processed. This may be longer if you want your prescription sent to a chemist. If you are due for a medication review, one of our prescribers will want to speak to you before reissuing and this may cause delay. One-off Medication: If you think you need medication that you don't have on your repeat medications, you will need to send an eConsult for your GP to review.

  3. Review titled Do we still have doctors at Bicester Health Centre

Rated 1 star out of 5

Bicester Health Centre do you still have doctors anymore? I ask because trying to speak to one, don't even think of asking to see one, is impossible, on two separate occasions in the last month I have been directed to totally inappropriate alternatives rather than see a GP, now maybe it's just me but aren't GP practices the first or primary line of care, not a hospital A&E, which we all know is currently over whelmed without the added pressure of Bicester Health Centre sending patients which would be more appropriate for them to see? Or opticians which are unable to issue a prescription should one be required. Front desk staff and care assistants over the phone making medical decisions which with the best will in the world they are not trained for. It seems ridiculous that when funding is so critical patients are sent to other bodies with the cost implications far exceed seeing a doctor. The NHS is an amazing organisation but some practices do seem to be letting the side down.

Hello Anon and thanks for your feedback. The way your GP surgery operates has changed significantly in the last few years for a number of reasons: There are now fewer GPs per head of population and people are living longer with more chronic conditions than ever before. Advances in medicine now allow people to live longer and healthier lives, which has in turn increased the complexity of GP work. As a result, the non-GP workforce in general practice has increased significantly to provide the increased support that patients need. There are now many roles working in your GP surgery that may have greater expertise in certain areas than your usual GP. Consultations can now be by email, video or telephone as well as face to face in the traditional way. The best person to help you with any particular issue may in fact be another healthcare professional. How do I know who is the best person to deal with me? We aim to allocate you the most appropriate person to deal with your issue. For example, this might be a physiotherapist for back pain, an advanced nurse practitioner for a chest infection or a clinical pharmacist for a review of your diabetic medication. For some people with complex problems the usual GP may still be the best person to see. Please let us know if you think this is the case. Every day in our reception office we have a “triage GP” working alongside our reception team of patient coordinators. All telephone calls and online consultation (E-Consults) are reviewed by this “triage” team to come up with the most appropriate solution or person to address your need. For this reason, we ask you to give as much information as possible about what you would like help with. This information will always be treated in the strictest of confidence. For the same reason we ask that, if you are able to do so, you contact us by E-Consult or telephone (rather than queueing at the reception desk for an appointment) as this allows for the most effective and timely “triage” by our team.

  4. Review titled Ridiculous appointment system

Rated 1 star out of 5

The system the Bicester Health Centre has recently adopted is absolutely useless. It has become impossible to book any appointments. The only way of speaking to a doctor is by calling in the morning (when the line is free) and asking for a doctor to call back. As there is no information on the time of the call, patients have to find a way to be within reach of phone reception at any time. I had my phone all morning with me, however had to take 10 minutes to welcome visitors at work for a meeting planned weeks ago. As phone reception does not work everywhere at the office, I missed the call from the doctor. Only to be told that it might not be possible to have a call from the doctor again today. I explained that I could not ensure I could stay within phone reception all day, and needed a confirmation that the doctor would call me again. I was told to "try and look on the bright side and assume I would have a call". I cannot believe how difficult it is to just speak to a doctor. Appointments for calls should be an option as patients should not be expected to put all daily activities on hold in the hope of having sort consultation. The new system is outrageous and I am not surprised so many patients are not being diagnosed on time for serious illness. It is not that they are not coming forward, but probably simply that the health centres are making it extremely difficult to speak to anyone.

Dear patient Thanks very much for your feedback. We appreciate that it can be difficult to receive a call at any time during the day. This was clearly a particular problem for you, and we are sorry it was so difficult for you. The clinician and admin teams have been working together over the past few months to develop a better way of dealing with the hugely increased demand for primary care services. We have incorporated feedback and experience gained over the past months to try and address the most frequent issues experienced by patients. We are rolling out the revised system in September 2022, and will be keeping a close eye on how patients receive the changes. As with any system, we may need to refine some aspects, but we are really keen to provide the best care we can for all of our patients. If you do need to contact us again, we hope you will see an improvement from your previous experience. Regards Paul Netherton, Practice Manager
