Review titled Great service from Beacon medical staff
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Linda Came - Posted on 06 December 2024
Felt I needed to send review after another instance of excellence service from member of staff. After explaining my somewhat complicated request, within an hour or so I received a text with an appointment with doctor and then another text from pharmacy with a prescription. Couldn’t be more pleased.

Review titled Totally unsatisfactory practice
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Paul Burton - Posted on 18 December 2024
I rang the practice just over a week ago because my blood pressure was extremely high. There was a problem with the communication system at on end . I am not sure which one so although I could hear the person on the other end of the line they could not hear me. I eventually spoke to a doctor who said she was from the critical care team and she seemed to think that difficulty in breathing was one of my symptoms that I was experiencing. I told her that it was not. It was probably fortunate for me actually, that she had formed that opinion or she would probably not have called and I would not have had the opportunity to talk to her or indeed anyone else who was qualified to for a medical opinion. We talked for a while and asked me to take my BP morning and evening for the next week and gave me an email address to send the readings to. I did as she had asked and sent the information to the address given. I also took a written copy down to the Ivybridge surgery to make sure that they were recieved. I called the surgery the next morning at just after 9 am and was told that I was 19th in the queue. Thinking that it would be some time before I would get a call back I went to use the bathroom. 9 minutes later I heard my phone ring. I hurriedly dressed and got to the phone, which was just next door. It stopped just as I reached it. That means 1.5 minutes had been spent answering the other 18 callers in front of me in the queue. Come on!! I got someone to take me down to the surgery again and explained the situation to the receptionist and after a lot of prompting he said he would ask someone to call tha day. I kept my phone close all day. No call. The next day I went back to the surgery and waited in line then told another receptionist the details of the day before and that my symptoms were getting worse and my BP remained high and once again I was told tha someone would get in touch that day. Later that day I had a text message to say thank you for using e consult and someone woul call me on January 7 next year. I went back to the surgery again and told the receptionist that I definitely had not used e consult and neither would I ever do so and that I needed to talk to a doctor about my BP and also, as I had mentioned earlier the results of my echocardiogram that I had been waiting for five weeks. I said that I was not prepared to wait for over four weeks to talk to a doctor and watch my high BP cause more damage to my brain, potentially. Eventually I got a message to say that someone would call me on 31st of January in the afternoon. New years eve! Do I believe that? after the past performance of this practice, no. Just another delaying tactic to get me off there hands and into hospital . The worst thing is about kicking the can down the line is , beside the sress imposed on the patient that this strategy will cost the NHS a lot more in the long run as the patients condition worsens and treatment is more intense and expensive. Shocking !

Review titled Terrible practice
Rated 1 star out of 5

It’s been over 2 years since I’ve needed medical help and since then the service has drastically declined. Even though I managed to get an appointment which did surprise me it was with a nurse and not a GP who, having reviewed my symptoms sent me to A&E where I wasted 6 hours of valuable hospital time when I am certain a GP could have assessed and diagnosed. Appalling service, felt like I was palmed off as the nurse (through no fault of her own) could not make a decision.

Review titled Let out in the cold
Rated 2 stars out of 5
by Vince Cleak - Posted on 26 January 2025
I have been suffering long COVID since November 2024 and contact the Ivybridge Beacon media group several times using their online consultation. The first time I contacted the group I was seen by a nurse the same day but after that all I got was a message that a GP has reviewed your consultation and will get back to you in 2 or 3 week. If you try to talk to the reception team you get told the same message. It is so frustrating dealing with a illness that hits your physical and mental state and you can't talk to a doctor. When you do they are great and helpful but the wait to talk to them is too long. They need to change their system or hire more doctors. At present i have another 2 week wait to sort out blood tests.

Review titled Mis-led, unhelpful and time wasting
Rated 1 star out of 5
by Kirsty - Posted on 02 January 2025
Submitted an e-consult clearly stating that I needed an assessment for ADHD/Autism for my daughter. Waited 2 weeks for a phone call from a GP who didn't discuss the condition with me and said that I needed to write a letter to the surgery, accompanied by a letter from the school. I was advised that I could not be referred without the letter from the school. Spent weeks gathering info from the school, keeping diaries of behaviour etc etc and wrote a 5 page letter to GP, to then wait another 2/3 weeks for the GP to send me a SMS with a link to self refer on the Livewell website! This was after I requested a call to discuss the next steps and was expecting this in place of a SMS. Could have been told this right at the start, rather than wasting time. Now I have to go through everything that I have already written to the GP again on the Livewell website. This should have been recommended when I first made contact, not months later with no progress. Not happy.
