  1. Review titled This practice is great

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I have visited the practice today for blood pressure check and blood test. The nurse was very informative and professional. I have been with this practice all my life and never had anything to complain about. I think some people are so ungrateful for the valuable work all the medical staff do. All the drs nursing staff and receptionist’s have been great. My husband has also been a patient with them and they have been absolutely brilliant with him. We are both so thankful for their services. We would be lost without them. Thank you so much to everyone.

I’m eternally grateful for the staff here at Ashville for their kindness, patience & understanding, especially when dealing with a Nervous Nelly like me, for many years. I’m always terrified, and need not be, because everybody is there to help. It’s so so much appreciated. Thank you!

  3. Review titled Lacking everything

Rated 2 stars out of 5

While equipped and spacious, many times the practice was empty when my and my baby's appointments were denied. However, in August 2022, after seeing that my baby isn't having periodic development checks, I've decided to go to Romania to have all her tests and scans done, just to make sure she's ok, as the gp hasn't reacted, even though I've called several times to ask for a routine check, worried because she fell from bed several times. In Romania, after paying for checks that would otherwise be free, we find she's developed hydronephrosis, requiring further checks and medicine that, back in the uk, the gp didn't even bother to check or suggest. Furthermore, I had to translate the documents so that they could make a suggestion to the hospital. If baby consultation would have been given for a doctor to see growth and development, this situation wouldn't have risen (as others as well). The health visitor is sending me to the gp for questions and the gp is sending me to the health visitor... and so, no resolution is reached in benefit of the baby's health. Video consultations zero, while sending pictures is considered an accurate way to give a diagnosis.

I would like to express my regret that you were unhappy with the level of service you received from Ashville Medical Practice. We certainly don’t promote our receptionists to be ill mannered. We are still under an extreme amount of pressure due to the COVID-19 pandemic including unprecedented demand for GP appointments. In an ideal world we would like patients to be able to call at any time of the day and get an appointment however currently it is not possible. The best time to call is 8am and 2pm for a GP appointment. Please be assured we are doing all we can with the resources we have to provide as many appointments as possible daily, and in advance. In addition to the GP surgery there are other services in Barnsley to access appointments or advice thus offering increased convenience and choice, and freeing up GP appointments for patients who may have more complex needs: I-Heart (see link below) https://www.iheartbarnsley.org.uk/ They can offer same day appointments with a nurse or GP during evenings, weekends and bank holidays. They can be reached by telephoning: 01226 242419. Their telephone lines are open 4:00pm - 6:00pm Monday to Friday and 8:00am - 9:30am during weekends and Bank Holidays, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. NHS 111- This service is available from 18.30pm Monday to Thursday and from 18.30 on Friday through to 8am Monday morning Community Pharmacists- Not all conditions need to be treated by a GP. Your local Pharmacist will be able to offer advice and over the counter treatments where appropriate. Kind Regards Melanie Jones Business Manager
