  1. Review titled Can't get an appointment

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 February 2024

Tried ringing at 8.30am for a routine appointment. At 8.32am there is a recorded message on the line saying all routine appointments have now been taken. So within 2 minutes of opening all appointments have gone expect for emergencies. I always look online first as they tell you you can book online and as I understand it they release online appointments at 8.30am. The never seems to be anything online available these days. What is going on with this surgery, it used to be good here, but it seems to have a lack of doctors and nurses to cope with the amount of patients they have. Even trying to book a smear test is a joke. I was told there is only 1 nurse at the moment as one has left and she only does Mondays! Then they refer you to St Martins Gate walk in service, but you can't book ahead for that. I'm trying to get some repeat medication that was declined when I requested it online. What does one have to do to try and sort this out. Its such a shame that this once brilliant practice has declined so much. I hope things can improve here

  2. Review titled Good practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My daughter Daisy Parkes was seen by ANP at Albany House Surgery on 17/01/2024. Daisy struggles with anxiety and resists going to see any medical professional but had a really positive interaction with the ANP who made Daisy feel really relaxed and listened with empathy. Daisy came away from the appointment with confidence and felt she would be happy to she this wonderful nurse again. I would like our thanks passed on to the individual, she has made a huge difference.

  3. Review titled Oversubscribed practice with inadequate GP staffing

Rated 1 star out of 5

I have been with this surgery for many years now but I am planning to move to another surgery as it is too difficult to get an appointment with a doctor. I do not need to see a doctor often, but every time I try to make an appointment the entire experience is incredibly difficult and upsetting. The surgery will only allow same day appointments to be made. This is only possible in my experience by calling exactly when the phone lines open then waiting in a queue. There is already a queue when the lines open and often I am hold for a lengthy period, only to be told all appointments are gone for the day, which means the whole process must be repeated the next day. The surgery also pressures patients to see the nurse rather than a doctor, but this somewhat defeats the purpose of a GP surgery. I have complained in writing and on the phone but to no avail. I feel that my family is not safe registered with this practice as it is unable to offer ready access to medical care. I now have private online cover as a backup and will move to another surgery for face to face appointments. Clearly the surgery has taken on too many patients and failed to recruit an adequate number of doctors to provide a basic service. It is frankly appalling.

  4. Review titled Great service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I contacted the surgery this morning and the receptionist was so helpful and efficient. Told me exactly what I needed to do. Then phoned me back an hour or so later after having spoken to a doctor and sorted out medication etc for me. So thank you for your help. I’ve got to admit inf been with this surgery since 1986 and they have always been good to me and my family.

  5. Review titled Appointments Impossible

Rated 1 star out of 5

2 hours on hold. 2 weeks attempting to get appointment. None available. Call back everyday to be told the same thing. Went down and tried to book over the counter. Told to go home and phone again. This used to be a great practice but due to lack of drs and increased population togerher with lack of funding the surgery is now failing to provide adequate care. Something desperately needs to be done to improve this once brilliant practice.

  6. Review titled Poor response from reception

    by Kirew76 - Posted on 31 October 2022

This morning I phoned the surgery at 08:30 on the dot for an emergency appointment. I went straight to no .30 in the queue, by 09:10 I finally got through to reception. I asked if I could have an appointment for ASAP to be told that all routine appointments were now gone. I expressed that I have been on hold since the lines first opened and that this was not okay. They then informed me there were only two people working - I understand this would be stressful however this really is not the fault nor should it be a problem for the patient calling. I understand the call was recorded so I would appreciate if this particular call could be listened to please as I feel disgusted at the way I was spoken to. The receptionist seemed to snap at me in an aggressive way and I was asked not speak to like that. I'm still unsure as to how I've spoken? I asked but apparently it was 'my tone', this is quite ironic considering the tone which was used to speak to me. I would like to say above anything else for the reception team to be mindful that they are the first point of call for the patient who could be going through something traumatic, in extreme cases they could be that last voice to push someone over the edge into a dark place mentally. It took every ounce of my strength to call this morning- I did not want to as felt I would not get an appointment or would be fobbed off but family pushed me to still try; It appears I was right. After this exchange of words I was asked if it was an emergency - should this not have been asked right away after me saying that I needed an appointment ASAP? The staff member asked me what my symptoms were and following this asked me some questions to which I replied. They then told me to go to A&E; I know my own body and do not want to go to A&E. I wanted to speak to a medical professional at my GP surgery, not have medical advice from anyone else. I replied that I want to speak to a doctor. They then asked me if I'm refusing to go to the hospital; I feel they could surely sense my heightened emotions and therefore there was no need to push or antagonise when I had already stated I do not need the hospital. I am not happy with how my call was triaged to the GP as the questions asked of me were not why I was calling- this then resulted in me not having an appointment. I understand staff are stretched and that times are stressful however nobody deserves to be spoken to in such a patronising and rude manner for simply requesting an appointment which they should be entitled to. This call actually resulted in an anxiety attack which I feel could have been avoided on top of my original reason for calling.
