Having only one good eye I was very cobcerned that things could go wromg but 3 weeks on I am very happy with the way everything went. To start with the Gentleman on Car Park duty was was vey helpful even showing my wife and I to the lift. The staff on Reception were very helpful and friendly, taking me to the car after the op which was most helpful The medical staff could not have been better, explaining what was happening throughout the whole procedure. which I found very reassuring which as a 90 year old I found had a very calming effect. Many thanks to alll involved and I just can't wait to get my new Specs and hopefully to get back to driving again. Jim Fletcher

My usual hospital was fully booked for an initial cataract assessment so I was offered and chose SpaMedica instead, only 21 miles from home. I had the first operation in June 2023 and the second some 5 weeks later. Their contact with me was 1st class as was all their administration, not forgetting the surgery itself, more discomfortable than painful but that was not unexpected. I was in theatre for less than half-an-hour on each occasion, being constantly asked by the surgeon if I was alright, good fellow! Thank you to everyone at SpaMedica.

Apart from some lengthy waits on the two occasions I visited Spa Medica, my treatment went well. Each step was clearly explained. The staff were professional, polite and friendly. The surgeon was considerate and clear in explaining what he was doing and what I was likely to experience, even the more uncomfortable parts of the cataract procedure. The post-op nurse was also helpful in explaining what I should and should not do, as was the written material I took away.

From the day an appointment was first made, the whole system, from appointment centre, to receptionists at the two centres that I visited, and all nursing/ medical staff, exuded professionalism, genuine patient care, obvious expertise and a willingness to help. I had a very stress free, calming experience.

On arrival at the clinic I found the staff to be friendly and efficient. My pre op assessment went smoothly with minimum waiting time and each stage was explained in detail. The procedure went well with no discomfort during the op. Again every stage was explained by the friendly staff. I have no worries about the Cataract operation being performed on my second eye.

My appointment was 12.30 and I arrived in good time, but I didn't get into theatre until 4.15. As per the instructions my lift dropped me off at the entrance to the clinic and I wasn't told about the delay until the time of my appointment by which time my transport had driven away. Due to the long delay, my lift home had to be abandoned for childcare arrangements. I did not feel safe to travel by lengthy public transport, so I had to get a taxi home which cost me £150 as I live over an hour away from the Bristol Clinic. I wonder if there is any way in which Spamedica could have let me know about the delay before I set off on my journey to Bristol. Or if patients' drivers could be advised of the timing when dropping off their patient off, which would obviously necessitate the provision of some short term parking. The information provide by Spamedica said that the process would take 3hours, but mine took 5 hours by the time the taxi arrived to collect me. I understand that things happen so my concern is about the lack of helpful communication, not about the long wait.

I had my post op appointment which was very quickly followed up with an appointment to have my cataract done. On the day I was very nervous, but from start to finish could not fault any of the staff. Everyone was so nice and friendly, put me at ease and made my experience so good. Cannot believe how much better my sight is.

From my first post-op visit to my eventual cataract operation the care and friendliness of all staff was excellent. All procedures were clearly explained, refreshments were offered and information on after care was clear. Should I require a second cataract operation I would definitely select this clinic.
