  2. Review titled Excellent service from the staff!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jeannette - Posted on 22 July 2023

I am very happy. The staff, the receptionist who took my pulse and temperature, as well as the nurse for triage and the Doctor were all really nice and patient. I felt I was really well looked after. The doctor kept in touch with my daughter because English isn't my mother tongue. He called her several times, he gave good advice and kept us posted about the results. The queue was short, we only waited for 2 hours. My daughter and I want to thank all the staff for what they have done. We are both very happy and recommend the services! Thank you

  3. Review titled Patient Team Vs Patients With No Patience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Tom - Posted on 08 June 2023

I'm eternally grateful that a service such as 111 and the Urgent Care Centre are able to run. It could be the difference in an extra A&E doctor being available to save a life. And I think for the most part, people are finally starting to realise if you can drive yourself to A&E, you're probably going to the wrong place. Unfortunately, UcS has taken a large brunt of this. I see too many people forgetting the resources available before UcS. If Nhs 111 online says the pharmacist can help, go to the pharmacist! If you need the Gp but can't get an appointment, phone 111 and they can refer you to the nearest available service."What do you mean four hours? It's a joke! I have to pick the kids up from school in 20 minutes." It's a 24 hour same day service free of charge. It's going to get busy, especially in peak hours. The staff are not to blame for your poor time management. There are multiple reminders that the service is extremely busy, and provides alternative sources for information and care before being sure that you are entering for care that is urgent. Unless it starts showing signs of infection, an insect bite can definitely be treated with bite creme, ask a pharmacist if you can't find it. When I've been unlucky enough to experience an injury too painful to wait, but not at all life threatening (this case being damage to my eardrum) and 111 were unable to find an alternative appointment, I knew full well bring a charger and a bottle of water, because this was an all day visit. The team in the service were so apologetic and accommodating straight away, and I felt guilty that they felt the need to apologise for helping so many people. And it makes me angry when I see the arguments attempted by those who see themselves as the only priority in the world. I applaud the calm composure displayed by all in the team. Sadly I think this is due to lots of practice. This is the national health service, which means everyone has a right to use it and a duty to not abuse it. Once the Gp had seen me, I was greeted with compassion, genuine concern and a plan of action that went above and beyond. After examining the ear, and acknowledging the pain, they took the time to phone the EnT department and made an urgent OoH referral for that evening, ensuring they knew to greet me at reception at an agreed time. Perfect example of how these services can work together and streamline getting the right people to the right place. 2 days later I even received a follow-up call to check the diagnosis and treatment plan had been set up, how I was feeling, and offering a further follow-up later in the week to ensure my journey was progressing in the right way and a genuine interest in the outcome. I wasn't expecting this call at all, and it's really compelled me to share the positive experience. But reading through the most self centred reviews, I feel it even more important to let the team know we absolutely don't all think this way, your dedication is appreciated. Thank you

Poor service. Waiting times between 4-6 hrs bow can that be “urgent care”. We pay our taxes and have the worst care in the world.

  5. Review titled Great staff

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Lewis - Posted on 05 April 2024

I've had the unfortunate pleasure of having to visit a couple of times now, no one wants to visit because of course that means you are having some sort of issue. Staff are fantastic in my experience, both the staff who you first speak to at the front desk, to the staff you see about your issue. My last visit was about a sensitive issue, didnt really want to talk about it in the open to the front desk so passed my phone over which i had written my issue on. I wish I knew the name of the person who dealt with me but she was really understanding and I could not have asked for better. Theres only so many staff with an endless supply of people walking in so I think you expect to be waiting and seen based the severity (everyone thinks their issue is more urgent than the people around them) Some perspective is needed from people coming here, I'm glad it's here to be used if needed. Thanks for all your hard work!

  6. Review titled Not enough capacity for MK

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Stuart - Posted on 11 April 2023

It is absolutely dire, understaffed and not patient focused. To take out of hours from a city the size of MK it must be bigger and better staffed. Wait times of almost 6 hours are unacceptable and it honestly felt like an underdeveloped country waiting room rather than a first world country. I had already been to a pharmacist and they had told us to come to urgent care so I had done my due diligence rather than just turning up. The centre is so understaffed that reception staff are curt to the point of rudeness. I can fully understand why they would be as the end user would be extremely frustrated. Lastly, there is not sufficient parking for the service. This needs an urgent review to examine whether it meets the needs of patients in Milton Keynes because right now it isn’t even close.

  7. Review titled Lack of care and empathy

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 April 2023

After calling 111 due to experiencing bleeding in early pregnancy. I was greeted with at first a two hour wait. After 3 hours checked with the receptionist to be told it’s a sit and wait service despite the severity of the situation. I appreciate the stretches in the NHS but, in maternity any bleeding you need to be seen immediately. There was no care, or sympathy for the situation. The urgent care need to change the way they do things and prioritise cases better.

  10. Review titled Ridiculous waiting times!!

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 February 2023

My wife took our 4 month old daughter in to the urgent care centre following referral from 111 around 9pm and wasn’t home until close to 4am the next day due to how bad the waiting times are. The advertised wait time was around 5 hours and she was initially triaged within about an hour and then not seen by a doctor until around 3am. I was always under the impression that children were prioritised but clearly not at this centre and my wife even said that several people came after her and were seen before her. She did question the reception staff several times (as did other patients regarding their own lengthy wait times), but progress continued to be very slow. I think it’s wrong that anyone should have to wait close to 6 hours to be seen by a doctor and I think it’s disgusting that a baby or child should be made to wait that long. This place has always had ridiculous waiting times and you get the impression they just don’t care or can’t be bothered to address it despite it being one of the main complaints. It can’t take that long to see patients - what are they doing between seeing patients? Why is there such a wait between patients sometimes? Surely it could be ran more efficiently than it is and a much better service could be provided with the right people and levels of effort. I get that the nhs is strained but that’s not going to change anytime soon and wait times here have been this ridiculous for as long as I can remember so it isn’t just as a result of covid that it’s got worse. Something needs to change here but I’m sure nothing will

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent experience of visiting our service. We do endeavour to make waiting times as short for our patients as we are able and in doing so try whenever possible to prioritise children where we can. We are, however, a service that accepts patients from different sources and of all ages, the 111 service, other healthcare professionals and patients that walk-in as well as accommodating different clinics within our building. These patients all have varying degrees of need; some will need our GPs to go to their homes whilst some will need to be seen ahead of patients that have been waiting due to their clinical need. This does, unfortunately, mean that children will sometimes have to wait longer than we would like. We are sorry that, on this occasion, your waiting time with your child was longer than we would have hoped for, we welcome all comments so that we can continue to strive to improve the service we deliver. Kind regards MKUCS
