    A family member of mine is currently in Southmead Hospital. I am their only next of kin and have consent to represent her. I have tried and tried to speak to a Dr about their care plan. I’ve rung early morning, mid morning, afternoon and evening and left my name and number. But I am unable to get to talk to anyone because no one answers the phone. As I don’t live in Bristol and will be responsible for their after care, it’s really important for me to get up dates and understand the treatment plan. Additionally the patient has limited understanding of health care, which is partly how they got so sick before being hospitalised. So it’s key for me to be clear about the situation.

    Please convey my thanks to the surgical, nursing, anaesthetic and the operation department practitioner team who looked after me so well on Monday when I went in for my gallbladder surgery at Southmead Hospital. I was very nervous and put at ease with laughs and banter. It did me the world of good! I would also like to pass on my thanks to the staff on ward 7b who took care of me overnight.

    I would like to say a big thank to the staff at Southmead Hospital, from my arrival at reception to surgical procedure and the after care of the staff on the ward 26 B was just brilliant ! There care and patience was beyond anything I had experienced on previous Hospital visits . Big thank guys much appreciated

    I had an Achilles tendon repair surgery on 21 November and was apprehensive, but need not have worried. I wasn't sick after the general anaesthetic which had been a big fear and I came round quickly as the other fear was I wouldn't wake up at all. I was kept in overnight because of a minor issue with mobility and being unable to go to the bathroom, but the staff were kindness and patience itself. The mediroom nurses, health care assistants, the surgeon, anaesthetist, physiotherapist and occupational therapist were informative, kind, encouraging and patient, and a big shout out goes to the nurse who encouraged me to practice with my crutches to the bathroom (almost every hour during the night as it turned out!) Now I'm home, still hate the crutches, but I'm managing and the equipment I was lent for the bathroom has been a massive help. I can't wait to get my weight-bearing cast and brace, though! Thanks so much again.

    My mother was admitted to Southmead following a collapse/seizure after being discharged from the Nuffield for a hip replacement operation. From resuscitation, through to Intensive Care, a mixed care ward, a step down ward, discharge to home, home mobility equipment providers, Sirona home care and reablement services, her treatment was consistently and unequivocally superb. Every single individual staff member, from cleaning staff to catering, nursing, therapy and consultants, was utterly professional and caring, every step of the way. You'd never know there was a funding and resourcing crisis in the NHS, so dedicated were the staff. My mother doesn't remember much of her stay at the hospital, because she was very poorly indeed when she was admitted, but she's well on the mend thanks to the unstinting care she received. Your staff are a credit to the profession.
