Review titled Excellent ophthalmic department
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Richard Grocott - Posted on 09 August 2023
Yesterday, afternoon, I was referred by an optician to King's College Hospital ophthalmology department. a Doctor saw me within 20 minutes of my arrival was able to diagnose a small retinal tear and carry out successful laser treatment all within an hour. I was deeply impressed with the Doctor's professionalism, care and attention to duty. Please pass on my thanks to the whole department.

Review titled Terrible waits, poor practice and unsuitable clinic
Rated 1 star out of 5

Attended A&E with possible ankle fracture and worried about having blood clot symptoms. Took 7 hours to be seen by a nurse who told me my details had been taken down wrongly and that I needed to see an ENT instead. 2 hours longer than person who checked in at same time also with ankle problems. No staff at reception to give updates since provision privatised, quite worrying as I was on my own if I’d felt faint no-one would be there. Signs on boards said injury waits were 2.5 to 3.5 hours but clearly wrong. Nowhere in clinic to get food if you’re on your own without potentially missing your slot. Other patients treated poorly. One chemo patient at risk of sepsis was sent to wrong department only realised when his wife complained. Utter chaos, and I’ve not even been sent for an X-ray yet over 8 hours after coming…

Review titled Today's blood test was pleasant
Rated 3 stars out of 5

I went in early for a blood test. The nurse explained that he was a student. He carried out the task perfectly well and I was left happy. What I need to also comment on is that at the main entrance there is a generous supply of facemasks left on display for the general public. The masks have no protective cover to them to keep them virus-free from passing coughs and sneezes; I thought that was unbelievable. Hope someone does something about this.

Review titled Amazing people at paediatric A&E
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Sue - Posted on 31 July 2023
We bought my son in at 8am 29.07.23. We had been to urgent care and another a &e the night before and they had told us to come to kings the following day. It had already been a very long night and my 10 Yr old was exhausted. We were seen by the nurse quickly but were informed we could have a long wait to see the max fax specialist. During our wait we were twice asked if we wanted tea by a lovely King's volunteer. We were also approached by the health play specialist who was present in the waiting room for the duration of our visit. She was able to give us an update on where the specialist was and how long we might still have to wait... I watched this lady talk to every family who came in... trying to make their experience of the hospital a little better. When we were finally called in to see the specialist a swift decision and treatment (stitches) was recommended. The play specialist joined us for this and spent the time trying to distract both me and my son from the work of the doctor... Noting it was my sons birthday, after the stitches were done a small gift for him was produced and the 3 staff sang him happy birthday... I was absolutely amazed, as was my son, it was so lovely... This is what children's healthcare should always look like... 🥰 An unpleasant start to his birthday made so special by the very, very good and skilled people at Kings paediatric a&e...

Review titled Outstanding care and the greatest doctors & nurses
Rated 5 stars out of 5

Even though the waiting time was extremely long (spent a total of 13 hours in A&E) I cannot fault the amazing care I received from start to finish. All the doctors and nurses listened to me and took me seriously. Even though they were super busy and overworked, they always answered any questions I had, helped me out and were always so sweet to me. The 2 A&E nurses got me a blanket and something to eat and drink. I'm so grateful I saw a doctor who then referred me to the gynaecology team. Turns out a clinic where I first went to prescribed me the wrong antibitoics. I also had sudden headaches and saw the neurologist along with a CT scan. Returning for more scans but I'm so amazed by the care I received, including all the tests and specialists I saw. I feel more at ease now and the doctors & nurses are all angels and superheroes. Thank you so much!
