  1. Review titled Thank You - Incredible service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Chris Pennick - Posted on 30 January 2024

Just want to say a massive thank you to the team at West Coker surgery. From the moment I rang the experience was so positive. Within a couple of minutes I got a call back advising me what to do and they then said they would ring my wife to tell her what had happened and that I was heading to Yeovil hospital. They rang me back about 15 mins later to check I was okay. This was so reassuring at a time when I wasn’t sure what was happening. As a village we are so lucky to have our surgery/pharmacy and its people. This experience is so different to those relying on larger surgeries/inner city health centres. Again, thank you to all concerned.

  2. Review titled Superb Practice

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Absolutely staggered to read some of the reviews on here. My telephone consultation today with the GP (within 24 hours of having first requested same) was courteous and professional, as well as setting my mind at ease of course. As welcome as this was, it didn’t come as a surprise per se, as I have never had anything other than a really professional and helpful service at West Coker, from the GP’s downwards, even when the staff seem to be working under intense pressure. Despite the constant clamour for miracles from all sides in the modern NHS, I think the staff here do a wonderful job. Sadly, one of the downsides of the COVID pandemic would seem to be a lingering sense of self-entitlement inherent in certain people, who seem oblivious of the fact that it is incumbent upon them to take a degree of responsibility in their dealings with the Surgery staff. If you want a functioning, ‘fit for purpose’ NHS for the next generation, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to work with the staff, rather than expecting the world. I shall remain extremely thankful that I’m a patient at the Surgery, but for those who seem to have nothing positive to say, the solution to your angst is a very simple one, go and register elsewhere! Caveat emptor though, be very, very careful for what you wish.

  3. Review titled Refused medical help

Rated 1 star out of 5

I recently visited England and whilst I was at the surgery for other reasons and I am not a registered patient, I asked a member of staff if they would mind checking my blood pressure as I was having palpitations and headaches as I suffer from a heart condition. They refused and told me to call 111. I then spoke with 111 who said I must go to a&e which I did. Both 111 and a&e said the surgery should never have refused to help me. When talking with the surgery the next day to express disgust, we were told by a member of staff that I should have gone to a pharmacy in the first instance and that legally they were unable to help anyone who wasn’t a registered patient. I have never heard of this before ….. your first port of call when suffering from palpitations from a heart condition is a pharmacist? Is this also true that surgeries in the nhs are only allowed to see their own patients? This does not sound right - what about the Hippocratic oath or I have heard something of the Nightingale Pledge?? A very sad and worrying experience for me.
