  1. Review titled Great quality practice

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Ruth - Posted on 11 April 2024

Contacted today about a new issue and met with courtesy and humanity. I have been a patient here for many years. I have experienced some fantastic help, care and consideration whether doctors, nurses or admin staff. True it can be hard to get face to face with someone who can help and negotiating the system has taken me learning and relearning and caused some frustration over the years however I've experienced some excellent care in tough times once there. Being referred on I've been impressed with the speed and courtesy some of our specialist services. Yes resources are under pressure. I'd imagine this is a great practice to learn from early in your medical career. Well done everyone and thanks for everything, particularly in the hard times.

Called at lunchtime due to concerns for my one year old and was seen in the afternoon by paramedic. Very thorough assessment and helpful advice given. So grateful to have such fantastic care from this surgery, every person we’ve seen is brilliant. Thank you.

  3. Review titled Poor service and communication

Rated 1 star out of 5

When I signed up to this surgery I had to fill out a form and email it over. I couldn’t go in a full out a paper copy because I was extremely unwell. Three weeks later when I go to make an appt because of said illness, they claim to have lost my email and so I wasn’t registered although I had proof that I had sent it. I had to start the process and wait period all over again. Also good luck trying to get them to answer the phone. After this it took them months to sort out a transfer of care and they actually ended up requesting that I did the legwork from my old GP and hospital to get it sorted from that end who informed me it doesn’t work that way and that it shouldn’t be my responsibility. I was booked in for a flu jab, turned up on time heavily pregnant, to a huge queue bending around the street in heavy rain. I inquired at reception as to the queue and my booked time, the receptionist of whom was extremely rude. She kept telling me the clinic wasn’t for me and was for people eligible for a free flu vaccine. When I trying to explain myself, and that I am eligible for multiple medical reasons she was exceptionally rude, wasn’t explaining the situation well and she was clearly frustrated at the whole situation. People in the queue had to speak up to her on my behalf because of her attitude. It ended up being understood that the queue was for a ‘clinic 1’ for over 65s and the next clinic was for my age group and they are probably not even going to do my clinic group today. I asked why I wasn’t informed it was going to be cancelled then, to which I got a snarky response about how I could see that they were busy. So I was told I could wait and see if I would be seen. When I explained that I was heavily pregnant and couldn’t stand up that long, and that I’m also extremely unwell, in the rain where I could actually end up catching the flu it was only then that she said I could sit down in the reception but still with no timeframe or guarantee I’d be seen. So I politely declined. I wish I’d booked and paid for a flu jab at Tesco now! And finally, I rang the surgery to confirm an appointment that was booked for me on a Sunday and wanted to double check it was actually at the surgery as it was at a weekend. They confirmed that it was. So, to make matters worse, I battled 3 hours in pouring torrential rain and road closures on a Sunday for a drive that’s usually 15mins down the road to turn up and see the surgery was closed because it was in fact not at the surgery but at the hospital. This surgery has poor service, is completely untrustworthy, with rude staff. A lot of local Facebook pages bemoan the service at it.

  4. Review titled Excellent service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My husband and I have been patients here for many years. We have experienced nothing but the best help, care and consideration whether doctors, nurses or admin staff. True it's sometimes difficult to reach the surgery by phone and there is quite a number of trainees of registrars but that's because the doctors are attached to a teaching hospital. Well done everyone an thanks for everything.

  5. Review titled March 2023 and still not returned to a normal service

Rated 1 star out of 5

Virtually no appointments available for the next month. Only Doctors listed seem to be part-time and frequently changing names. As for the telephone, if this is answered in under 15 minutes it would be a miracle. I note that the Surgery never responds to any reviews!! As this seems to be regularly described as the worst Surgery in Exeter it is not surprising that they cannot defend their appalling service. Please can we have second surgery in Topsham?
