Service type

NHS Health Checks are available within GP practices and selected local Pharmacies. We also have third party providers who are able to deliver Health Checks within workplaces and the local community.

Referral method

If you are 40-74 years old without any of the NHS Health Check listed pre-existing conditions and are registered with a GP you should receive a letter or text inviting you for a free NHS Health Check every 5 years. Once you get your invitation you will be asked to follow the instructions to book your appointment. You can also ask your GP surgery to see if you are eligible or contact the council Public Health team to find out which local pharmacy teams are offering Health Checks. In addition people can look out for publicity outlining dates and locations of specific community events organised by the Public Health Healthcare team.

Description of service

The NHS Health Check is a simple check of your heart health. Aimed at adults in England aged 40 to 74, it checks your vascular or circulatory health and works out your risk of developing some of the most disabling – but preventable – illnesses. It is free of charge, including any follow-up tests or appointments.
