The Carer’s Peer Support Service aims to offer friendly, informal but confidential support to carers of people with substance misuse issues. The service is distinctive in being provided for carers by carers and others with close personal experience of substance misuse.

Referral method

Carers can refer themselves into the service, or they can be referred by any organisation that they are in touch with.

Referrals should be made to the Carer’s Development Worker. When a referral is received the Carer’s Development Worker will speak to both the referrer and the carer.

General notes

Peer Supporters can support a carer for a maximum of two hours per week for a period of six months. If the carer would like to re-access the service after six months, a new referral must be made via the Carer’s Development Worker.
