Action for Family Carers is a registered charity based in Maldon, which has been providing support and information to unpaid Carers in Essex for 30 years. The charity is a Carers Trust Network Partner and Centre of Excellence and holds the NCVO's Trusted Charity Mark at Level 2, the highest level, for leadership and management.

A Family Carer is someone, who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.

Target group

Any Family Carer - someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.

Young Carers are children as young as five years old, and any young person aged under 18, whose life is restricted in some way because they look after someone else on a regular basis.

Our services for adults include:    - Maldon Day Care for vulnerable older people to enjoy a day out in a safe and stimulating environment and to give family Carers a break.    - Activity Groups, Keeping Active and Active Minds, for people with dementia or memory problems in Harlow, Epping and Great Dunmow.   - Befriending, giving regular contact with dedicated volunteers for Carers who may feel lonely or socially isolated.   - A dedicated Counselling service for Carers provided by qualified volunteers.    - GP Liaison Service, supporting GP practices to identify Carers and identify how GPs can proactively support Carers to manage their healthcare needs.   - The Carer and Family Response Service is an independent and responsive support service for Carers and their families in the District of Chelmsford.    Our Young Carer services include:   - Regular Young Carer club nights for those aged 7 years and over to mix with others and have fun in Clacton-on-Sea, Colchester, Great Dunmow, Harlow, Loughton, Maldon, Stansted and Witham.    - School-based support for Young Carers in primary and secondary schools across Essex to help schools identify Young Carers and to ensure they receive appropriate support.    - Young Adult Carer Transition Support for those aged 16-24 and living in Uttlesford
