    Having returned to my hometown after a few years away, I was referred to c.h.e.c. for regular eye care. The first communication asked me to make an appointment, with no information as to what the appointment would cover. I assumed it would provide a thorough eye examination (visual field, visual acuity, pressures, retina, etc) and consultation. However, on the day I was merely given a Visual Field Test, no consultation with the optometrist. I was not happy to learn there’d be further appointments for the various usual eye tests and to see the optometrist. A second communication was received, asking me to make an appointment, and again, no information provided. I phoned as I wanted to understand how c.h.e.c’s system worked. I was told that eye tests were being split to speed up waiting times. What an infuriating waste of *my* time. I saw the optometrist a few weeks later, who did manual checks of my eyes, but was told I’d have to return for two more appointments - one for the scan, and another to see her again to discuss findings. I cannot express the extent of anger at the waste of not just my time, but the wholly inefficient system that now creates four appointments where in the past I had just one or two (with an organisation called The Group Practice, which provided an excellent service). Thankfully I’m retired, so have a little more flexibility than someone who’s working. I can’t imagine the stress and inconvenience this must cause to people who have to work. c.h.e.c. states that part of their vision is to reduce waiting times. What a joke. It's taking four appointments spread over 6-8 weeks to complete my eye check/consultation whereas in the past only one or two appointments were necessary. The wastefulness of this poorly run system is a disgrace. As this organisation is an nhs supplier, it means that scarce taxpayers’ money is being wasted over and over. This is a deplorable way to operate. Who is holding this organisation accountable?

    I arrive 10 minutes early for my appointment in Chorley. One other patient arrived breathless and stressed, he had had to leave to move his car as no one was there for his 9am appt. Another lady had an appt at 8.30am and had to leave to go to work. Another couple arrived for a 10.30am appt. On ringing your number, (16th in the queue) I was told that the clinic had been cancelled. Shame you couldn't have informed the patients who spent time and money getting there on time. The practice that you rent the room from didn't know it was cancelled, I informed them and put a notice up in the foyer. Things can only get better. I was referred mid February and some 11 or more weeks later have had one appointment with a technician.

    Staff were extremely friendly courteous and professional, accommodated my health issues and created a pathway to ensure my surgery went smoothly. The was pleasant and stress free. Clear and precise after care and contact numbers given. An excellent service.

    My cataracts were fixed end of 2023. 2025 my right eye is blurring, so in March I visited the Optician for an eye test which confirmed it needed laser treatment. The Optometrist sent in the forms. A prebooked holiday delayed things for a few weeks so an appointment was booked for 29th April with CHEC. This turned out to be a phone call asking if my eyesight was a bit problematic. I said it was, so the Dr said OK, an appointment would be booked in a few weeks. My Optometrist had agreed all this weeks ago so this was just a wasteful delay. My wife had her eyes tested this week and she too needs laser treatment. She has just received an appointment today for a telephone call in May. Fortunately she doesn't drive as her problem is worse than mine, but she is struggling with her current spectacles. Surely this delay could be avoided by believing the Optometrists report?

    Having booked an appointment in response to a text message I receive further messages in the following days telling me to book. When trying to change or defer the appointment the website does not recognise my details. I have mentioned this before when visiting Poundbury and been given a local number to use. However this is never answered. The actual service from the practitioners is excellent but badly let down by your IT department. MHH

    So easy to make an appointment and only have to wait days for that appointment, to the friendly staff at the clinic….they are a credit to the NHS…oh and free easy car parking too.

    After a really bad experience at Chec Gillibrand Street Chorley, my appointment came through for Yag Capsulotomy at Fulwood. In and out in fifteen minutes, absolutely thrilled with the result, thankyou so much, although the Receptionist needs a course in customer relations!

    Chec have been monitoring my eyes for several visits, in three different locations. At all three, most recently Chesterfield, I was treated like a vip. All the staff I met really seemed to care and it makes a real difference. I only wish other parts of the NHS could come anywhere close to this level of service. Thank you! Keep up the good work.
