  1. Review titled An outstanding hospital in every respect ...

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by KAH 52 - Posted on 04 March 2024

On 6th March 2023 I had a very successful total hip replacement at Wrightington Hospital and I was fortunate to be under the care of a wonderful team. I cannot praise enough the care given to me and the professionalism of all during my stay and the excellent aftercare and advice (including my 12 month post operative check up). My experience with the staff during Out Patient and pre-op visits gave me the utmost confidence in the hospital and I was not disappointed. From the moment I arrived early on the day of my operation staff were attentive, knowledgeable and, above all, caring and approachable. Many health care professionals – surgeon, anaesthetists, nurses, cleaners, doctors, HCA’s, physiotherapists and admin assistants - were involved in my care both before and after my operation and all were wonderful. Without a doubt, Wrightington is an outstanding hospital in every respect. One which offers a warm, positive and welcoming environment and is a true example of the NHS working at its best – professional, compassionate, efficient and reliable whilst maintaining a wonderful sense of team spirit at all times.

  2. Review titled Friendly, caring, efficient, knowledge of Consultants

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Sue Longden - Posted on 27 January 2023

From the welcome at admissions for my first consultation, the knowledge of the anticipated operation and what I needed to commit to, ie exercises, to the admission and step-by-step details through the operation, the professional nursing care in the ward to the continuing expertise of the physios after the operation - 100% experience. The news is full of doom and gloom but at Wrightington life, to the patient, is excellent.

  6. Review titled Wrightington Hospital Orthopaedic.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Leslie Banner - Posted on 24 October 2022

I recently had bilateral hip replacement at Wrightington Hospital. My consultant and his team were outstanding. He gave me confidence beforehand; I’m delighted with the result. There is still a long way to go, but I’m entirely optimistic about my future. I also experienced high standards of care from the anaesthetist, physiotherapists, X-ray department, nurses’ day and night, caterers, cleaner and porters. All of these people were friendly, kind and professional. I feel very privileged to have been able to have my surgery at Wrightington Hospital. TheHospital and all the staff are a credit to the NHS.

  7. Review titled Very sad deterioration in longer term care

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 15 September 2022

After being on annual check ups for several years due to subtle changes in old but very successful hip replacements, and always feeling involved and informed about my condition, I was astounded to receive a letter today informing me that I will no longer be attending outpatient clinics to monitor my hips. Instead I must complete a general questionnaire form included & have an x-ray which will be reviewed by a practitioner. I will have no involvement in the check up process, no discussion, no questions, but will simply be sent a letter within 3 months informing me of the review outcome. I am honestly devastated about this indisputable reduction of service and care. This is awful. Absolutely awful.

  8. Review titled Pre - operation Clinic

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Elizabeth - Posted on 05 September 2022

I had to attend this clinic to assess my fitness for a total knee surgery. From the moment I arrived, by hospital transport I was made to feel at ease. All the staff were friendly and helpful and professional. I received all the information I need, plus answered my questions. Because I had to wait for transport home they even got me some lunch and a coffee. Well done all for your kindness

  9. Review titled First Class Procedure

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Alma Tickle - Posted on 16 August 2022

I was admitted for a complete hip replacement procedure, within 5 hours after admission and after my operation had been undertaken, I was allocated to the John Charnley Wing and allowed visitors that same day. I received visits also from the Consultant, Physiotherapist as well as thorough monitoring on an hourly basis from the nursing team. I was also provided with details of those family/friends who had enquired regarding my progress. I was situated in a private suite which was "user friendly" very quiet and comfortable. Food was excellent with choices and was nicely presented to me. My visitors were also made very welcome and on the day of my discharge my visitor was allowed to remain with me for over 5 hours until x-rays and blood tests confirmed that my discharge was appropriate. The period from admission to discharge was only 60 hours which is remarkable given the magnitude of the procedure. I was accompanied by a member of the nursing team to my transport to ensure that I would be safely settled into the car for the 30 mile journey home. Since returning home i have received a follow up phone call from your team at Wrightington checking on my progress towards recovery and confirming my follow up appointment in 6 weeks with the Consultant. I have the greatest of respect for all your team for the care I have been given, thank you.

  10. Review titled Blue badge parking...dismal!

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 October 2022

Wrightington is a centre of excellence for orthopaedics. With this in mind I would like to say how awful parking is for disabled people. There are simply not enough spaces available near the therapy dept. I need to fully open my car door to get in and out, I use two crutches. Parking in the top car park is simply not an option. It really stresses me out, I worry more about getting a disabled parking space than the actual treatment, thats simply not right. My friend who uses a rollator has actually missed two appointments now as she couldnt get a space. Its awful, its stressful. Please do something about it...I attend hospital twice a week and its stressing me out!!!

Thank you for your posting, which I have shared with the Car Parking Manager, who advises that the Trust is undertaking a review of the number of disabled spaces at Wrightington to see if we can alleviate any stress in this regard. On entering the site, if you take the first left at the small roundabout there are at least 10 disabled bays marked up within a very short walk of the hospital in addition to the ones that we have outside outpatients. The Trust hopes that the parking will become better, and the Car Parking Manager is sorry that this has caused you stress. Yours sincerely Vicky Bolton Patient Relations and PALS Manager
