Review titled staff goes over and beyond
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Joanna - Posted on 26 October 2024
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the team in A&E on the night of October 24th to 25th. The staff went above and beyond to support me, providing all the information I needed, patiently repeating details when I wasn’t sure or didn’t understand. Their kindness and caring attitude were truly wonderful in a moment of pain and exhaustion. I also appreciated the advice to return in the morning to avoid a long wait once it was determined my injury wasn’t urgent; this allowed me to get some rest. It showed impressive management and organizational skills, which are clearly essential with the constant flow of patients filling the waiting room—especially given the challenges of an understaffed department. I understand the waiting time reached 12 hours that night, which is difficult both for patients and staff, and I hope steps can be taken to improve this. Despite the pressure and stress they must experience, the team worked highly efficiently, but there simply aren’t enough staff members to enable shorter waiting time for patients. Additionally, I observed the staff skillfully handling difficult situations, including managing a patient who initially displayed aggressive behavior. They calmed him down within a few minutes, showing remarkable patience and professionalism. Thank you as well to the team members who carefully examined my X-ray, provided advice, fitted me with a special boot, and answered my questions with patience. Your team truly made a difference, and thanks to your amazing work, we were able to catch our flight in the afternoon and take children to visit grandparents during half-term!

Dear Joanna, Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such a glowing review of the Emergency Department at Wexham Park Hospital. It is reassuring to hear that, despite the clearly intense pressures on the team, they remained professional, caring and courteous and were able to deliver the patient experience we as a Trust strive to deliver every single day. It will be a pleasure to share your feedback with the team. Review titled Great emergency care generally. Some concerns.
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Barbara Frith - Posted on 03 November 2024
I follow a fodmap diet to control IBS symptoms and gluten sucrose intolerance. On ward 1 there was no question about diet. As I was too unwell to ask after surgery I accepted normal bread and cows milk. I developed diarrhea and because of codeine use I was then prescribed laxatives which I took reluctantly. On about 28th October I mentioned to the staff nurse on ward1 about gluten intolerance and was given the diet sheet. This diet was not fodmap but better than nothing. Shouldn't a dietician check with relatives about diet. I'm not officially IBS or Coeliac diagnosed. One other criticism about ward 1. Mixing the recovering patients with newly admitted theatre patients in recovery made for a bad experience on two nights. One patient with altzheimers tried to get out of bed and a fellow patient called the nurse. On another occasion a patient was so distressed in the early hours that I spoke to her to reassure her that she was OK and the nurses were trying to help. She was a lovely 93 year old and she told me that she'd had hallucinations and apologised. She looked out for the other 3 patients in our set. The night nurses didn't check often enough on new admissions. No thought was given to the rest of use with disturbed sleep.

Service was just amazing, so much care and compassion from the whole team, the surgeons, the nurses, the people at the reception. Everyone was amazing, great work guys. If l could remember all the names l would have loved to mention all the names. Service was just amazing, thank you for helping me get better.

Review titled AAU
Rated 3 stars out of 5
by Anonymous - Posted on 18 September 2024
Drs did a thorough job of trying to find out what was wrong but nursing care on the ward was disappointing - poor communication, unable to give me prescribed medication (said not available, kept trying to give me others which I told them I can’t have) and generally not around much and left to look after myself. Partner had to bring in pillow and blanket from home. Food totally inedible and no nutritional value. Not a place to go to, to get better unfortunately.

I was referred to the ENT Emergency Clinic for immediate review and treatment. Everything went very smoothly and the audio testing and follow up consultation were excellent. A vast improvement on a previous visit two years ago to A & E.

Review titled Wonderful Care & Treatment
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Allan - Posted on 17 August 2024
I’m a 73 year old NZ citizen who was on holiday in Slough when I attended Wexham Park Emergency Department on the night of Saturday 10 August, with acute urine retention. Hospitals often get negative feedback in my country so I was amazed at the; prompt, personable and expert treatment I received from all hospital staff I encountered at Wexham Park. The triage nurse who first saw me, the senior nurse who inserted a catheter and the junior doctor who tested my prostate, were all extremely positive and professional, and instilled me with the highest confidence that they were doing the very best for me ….as did the senior doctor who saw me on the Sunday morning. As well, all other staff who looked after me during my stay were; respectful, competent and pleasant. I returned home a couple of days later with the highest respect for your country’s NHS and Wexham Park Hospital in particular!

by Jaspreet - Posted on 09 July 2024
Thank you to the A&E Dr and nurses (it will not let me add names but there was 3 of you) who was on shift on the 08th July for being kind and looking after me when I came in with high fever. You done your best to make sure that I was as comfortable as I could be despite feeling very poorly and in a lot of pain I was looked after very swiftly once I arrived. Thanks for being kind and caring towards people when they feel most vulnerable.
