  1. Review titled Superb endoscopy team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Trevor Cooper - Posted on 16 June 2025

Every member of the endoscopy team was very professional and experienced in looking after me during an endoscopy investigation. They all took every care to ensure that I was quite comfortable throughout and explained clearly exactly what to do and what was happening. I felt in very capable and caring hands the whole time. These ladies working on Endoscopy Ward 1 WGH on 16/6/2025 are a real credit to their profession and I send them many thanks for their kind treatment and wish them all the very best.

  2. Review titled Damaging Administration

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 13 June 2025

I am treated at the hospital for macular degeneration: i.e., my eyes are deteriorating over time and my sight getting worse. I am making here a serious complaint that I hope will be addressed. It is not about medical or support staff with and by whom I have been well treated in the hospital. Treatment involves eye injections periodically, based on a scan each time: the period between injections is set by the consulting doctor according to her/his judgement of the state of the eye. My eyes are degenerating continually, it is possible for an injection to hold them stable for a period of time. Time and time again I have had to complain that the period between injections is greater than the doctor's recommendation. This has meant, for example, an interval of 12 or more weeks when the recommended interval has been 8 or 10 weeks. Each time, I feel distressed that I am not able to get the injection at the time appropriate to the state of my eyes. This means that my eyes are degenerating faster than can be prevented if the interval between injections is arranged according to the doctor's recommendation. In the most recent case, the doctor's recommendation was for an interval of 10 weeks. However, my next appointment comes after 16 weeks. In other words I shall be 6 weeks overdue for this injection. My eyes will be getting worse during this time. I have spoken to the staff member who allocates appointments, ideally according to the doctor's recommendation. She tells me she is told by hospital administrators how many appointment can be given on any day at any time. Thus, administration controls what is possible according to scheduling, rather than what is needed medically. An outcome of this practice is that I lose my eyesight more rapidly than is preventable. I ask all these administrators how they can sleep at night -- how would you feel if it was yourself, your child or your parent being denied the treatment that keeps their eyes stable for as long as possible at any time? Thus, I ask for a system that allows treatment to be given according to a doctor's medical judgment, not according to administrative scheduling.

  3. Review titled Lovely staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I visited this hospital for a tonsillectomy yesterday and I was amazing by the outstanding level of care I received, the nurses were incredibly attentive and kind. The anaesthesiologist put me at ease. Everyone I encountered made what was a really horrible day (as I had never had an op before) so much more bareable. Thank you so much to everyone!

  4. Review titled Great non judgemental care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 12 September 2024

I visited the Urgent treatment centre this afternoon and wanted to say thank you so much for your non judgemental care this afternoon, you were kind to me, didn't think I was a nuisance and even gave me a hug. I felt like a burden but it was my last resort after not being able to get any care elsewhere ...thank you to the first nurse, the last nurse who hugged me and the doctor.

  5. Review titled Superb Staff once again at the Cardiac Centre.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Peter Cawood - Posted on 23 August 2024

I have had to visit the Cardiac Day Unit Twice, recently, once for a loop recorder, shortly after for an ICD. Both times I have been treated like I was a friend not a patient. This helped my anxiety level, which was through the roof having previously suffered a major stroke in 2016. All the staff made me feel like a close friend, something I've never experienced at any other Hospital, this greatly helped my stay, which were both on the day ward. Unfortunately due to my Stroke I cannot remember any of the staff names, I'm sure they will remember me, in fact two members of staff were the same on both visits. I would like to thank all those involved in both visits, they were all superb, professional and extremely friendly, a first in my 65 plus years of needing healthcare. Many Many thanks. Peter Cawood.

  6. Review titled Kindness and efficiency

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Patricia Har-Even - Posted on 05 September 2024

I inhaled smoke when my holiday home filled with thick smoke after I accidentally set the microwave on fire by, idiotically, using a paper plate to heat food. I phoned the excellent NHS advice service and the nurse made an appointment for me at Westmoreland. The receptionist was very warm and welcoming, the nurse friendly and listened carefully to all my explanations about the accident. I didnt have to wait long till a nurse checked my oxygen levels. Finally a charming doctor reassured me that I would be fine and the raspiness in my throat would shortly disappear. A wonderful kind and quick service.

  7. Review titled Poor

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Sue - Posted on 13 July 2024

Spent 2 hours waiting in various areas before being seen. Was seen by Doctor for about 5 mins. She hardly bothered to speak and when I politely asked if anything could be done to save my vision she shrugged her shoulders and muttered that they can give injections. No explanation of what sort of injection or when I might be seen again. I found the whole experience very distressing.

I had to postpone ophthalmology appt due to imminent heart surgery. Their diary only went up to March 8th. They said they would phone after that date. They haven't. There are no contact numbers. I've tried phoning hospital twice, but have been cut off without any response.
