  1. Review titled Not worth the taxes.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Steve Hopper - Posted on 28 November 2023

I recently attended for a split lip after machining accident, small cut, was told to go to Carlisle. Today I took my son to A&E with a severe eye infection, he sat there for 4 hours in agony and was told no one was available so he would have to wait. He eventually gave up and walked out at midnight in a worse condition than when he went in. Tell me again how much this white elephant cost ? It was "Not " worth it.

  3. Review titled Sad service

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 10 October 2023

Doctors lacking empathy on two separate visits, made me feel worse. After receiving bad news after a pregnancy scan I was sent off with a leaflet and no follow up call, appointment or information. There was no opportunity to ask questions and calling the number left me with a voicemail and no returned calls. Conflicting advise given and left me confused and worsened the situation. No reception staff on duty so had to check myself in. No separate waiting room for people who have received or are worried about recieving bad news

  4. Review titled A journey for an efficient appointment

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Elaine Smith - Posted on 19 September 2023

I took my mam for a bone scan appointment so a 90 minute round trip. This included three circles of the hospital before finding a parking space. She has a blue badge but all those spaces were full too. Parking is only reason for not being five star. A very helpful lady guided us to the right place and got us a wheelchair when mam started to get a bit tired. Taken right on time for appointment and given lots of relevant information. The radiographer was great, helpful and friendly so top class treatment.

  6. Review titled A Great Team at Accident and Emergency

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Pat Addinell - Posted on 10 July 2023

I arrived at AandE after falling on my face and still bleeding. Throughout my visit, I felt respected and treated as an individual, even tho' several members of staff were involved. Reception was quick and thorough, and from then on I experienced great continuity of care - stitches, bleeding stopped, Xrays, monitoring, tetanus shot, medications and verbal and written discharge info. The communications between all staff and the Xray department worked, and my treatment was timely and coordinated. All done in a warm, friendly manner. Thank you Whitehaven.

  7. Review titled Excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Denise Mann - Posted on 05 August 2023

On 25th July I attended for hip replacement surgery. I was of course apprehensive never having had this done before, however the staff were caring, considerate and made me feel confident. Throughout my treatment the care was amazing, nothing was too much trouble for the staff that were involved in my care. From the anaesthetist, the surgeon and theatre staff, I was made to feel safe. Everything was explained in great detail. Everyone was great making me feel safe and secure and they cared about me. In recovery, again I was really well cared for, the staff were friendly and caring and the surgeon came along to have a look at how I was and chat about how things had gone. I was taken to the ward where once again, I was treated with care and consideration. There was just one nurse on for the night shift, however every time I needed anything she was there for me smiling, kind and caring. I think she was looking after 4/5 of us that night and I know she was busy because I could hear one lady shouting out all the time and another was in tears quite a lot. Nevertheless she dealt with it all so well and I was given everything I needed. When the day staff came on, once again they were friendly caring and courteous. The routine went like clockwork, for physio, X-rays blood etc. all the time these nurses and physio were friendly and smiling at all times. I cannot thank them all enough, given the times we are going through I cannot think of any one thing that could have been done better. A huge thank you to them all, each and every one made me feel cared for. What a great team of people they are.

  8. Review titled Caring & Considerate staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Barry McManus - Posted on 06 July 2023

My wife had appointment at Pre-op assessment unit on level 2.We had arrived on the correct date, but unfortunately 6 hours early. The reception & clinical staff were able to avoid my wife having to return for the allotted time. Being old we were grateful to the people in the unit. For the caring and sympathy shown they deserve great credit.

  9. Review titled Great team providing excellent care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Mike J - Posted on 25 June 2023

We had the experience of an unwell child, went to GP who immediately recommended hospitalisation. Went up to the hospital, welcomed into the ward and the team there immediately checked our child, nursing team then doctors. Nursing team were caring, conscientious, helpful and kind. The doctors were great saw him on arrival and each morning. Explained things well and clearly despite the challenge of understanding the symptoms. The support given made a difficult time easier whether providing cups of tea or cleaning the room to the more challenging problem of assessing the cause of the problem our child had. Bye the bye, a great play room.

I was admitted to the Whitehaven Hospital Day Care Unit for Total Knee Replacement Surgery. Form initial check-in at the PreOp to the Surgery Itself, Recovery Room and Ward 1 Post Op; I was treated with the utmost care and respect. I can find no fault with any of the procedures or staff Even the food was quite OK. All in all my stay was made quite acceptable by the assurances and professionalism of all concerned in my treatment. My grateful thanks to all at the Hospital for such a high standard of service.
