  1. Review titled Kindness and Consideration

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Kerri Spendlove - Posted on 09 November 2023

My mum was admitted to Torbay Hospital at the end of September where she unfortunately passed away. I can not thank the staff enough for the kindness and compassion they showed to my family and I. The emergency department did an amazing job but unfortunately it was mums time to go. We were moved to the George Earle Ward where the staff were so kind they provided us with comfortable chairs to sit on and food and drink to keep us going through the night. She died peacefully with us all at her bedside and I will be ever grateful to the staff that assisted us during our time there.

  2. Review titled Reassuring and calming

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Jill S - Posted on 20 September 2023

A big thank you to the radiology team at Torbay where I recently attended for an MRI scan. Being slightly claustrophobic and a little anxious, I wasn't particularly looking forward to my appointment. However everyone I met on the day, including the lovely "wayfinder" team member who walked me from the main reception to the clinic, were so kind, professional and calming, that I felt completely at ease. The radiology staff explained everything to me as we went along and at no point did I feel worried or anxious. Thank you again for your care and professionalism.

  4. Review titled Exceptional Service and Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Martin - Posted on 15 August 2023

My 92 year old mother fell at home and broke her hip. The response on 999 was fantastic the ambulance arrived within a couple of hours and the Para Medics were great. My mother did not wait in the back of an ambulance and was transferred almost immediately for assessment and was found a bed later that day. When I visited that evening the consultant was extremely detailed in the results from the tests and the way forward. The junior Doctors were on strike but you would not have noticed any deterioration in the service. My mother had her operation the very next morning and is recovering well. I cannot praise Torbay Hospital and the Staff highly enough for their professionalism and dedication of care.

  5. Review titled Legendary courtesy and care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 31 August 2023

Over the last few months, I have received what must be described as legendary treatment and care. On each and every occasion I visited Torbay Hospital, which has often been on a daily basis I was met with courtesy, care, and consideration. Each treatment and there were many, was carefully explained to me to minimise any concerns I may have had. In addition, I am elderly, 80 years of age- again I was granted willingly the extra attention needed for mobility, explanation and peace of mind. My experience does not stand alone, my experience is that all those patients being treated at the same time in various units with me were all of the same opinion. Torbay Hospital and all your staff at all departments and at whatever level and employment, stand proud to be a member of this great hospital and its magnificent team.

  6. Review titled Amazing Staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by A Edwards - Posted on 23 August 2023

I was admitted to the John MacPherson Ward as an antenatal patient. As soon as I walked onto the ward the staff greeted me and showed me to my bed. They let me know where all the facilities were and the times for meals, visitors & medication rounds. I arrived late so missed dinner but they kindly offered to make me something. They responded quickly when I pressed the call bell. Staff were super kind and reassuring. I felt very well looked after.

  9. Review titled Very happy patient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was admitted to A & E with heart problem, where I was looked after exceedingly well by everyone. I was transferred to AMU. where I was monitored and looked after by all members of staff. The catering was above my expectations and I can not recommend Torbay Hospital enough. There was a waiting time when I got there first but they assessed me when I immediately arrived as they were busy.

  10. Review titled Outstanding Care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Barry Hingston - Posted on 17 July 2023

Twice inside a fortnight I have needed to go into Torbay Hospital. I have had to interact with over 40 members of the hospital team. Paramedics, a+E wards Allerton & a+e4 surgical, Gastro, urology, oncology, diabetes, palliative, porters, CT operators and not forgetting cleaners and catering staff. It’s been a very traumatic time for me & my family. Initially having a ruptured stomach ulcer to the CT finding multiple terminal cancers. All of which were totally unknown to me. The care , consideration and treatment I have been given is truly outstanding. Even more so when I have had time to watch the Hospital staff deal with members of the public whilst trying to do their jobs. At every stage I have felt in good hands. I don’t believe I was simply fortunate to of had the right people at the right time. I needed to many over an extended period of time for it to simply be good luck. It shows the level of training, commitment and exceptional people involved with the Hospital is outstanding. Whilst my body needed treatments & tests. It was never forgotten that I was a person. The impact of a terminal diagnosis is devastating however the way in which that prognosis is delivered is so important and for me it was both caring and professionally done. Particularly the consideration for my wife. Then also my extended family. Undergoing numerous tests, transfusions and a biopsy over a 10 day period. Then being taught how to deal with my equally newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes due to pancreatic cancer. Could have been completely over whelming yet the compassion and time given to me was exemplary. At every stage every interaction with a member of the hospital team was truly amazing. It was obvious to me all departments were interacting and overlapping for my treatment. Having time when you are recuperating to observe not just my own care but others. Also how staff go about their daily duties it was astonishing to me just how absolutely every member of staff was so professional. What took it to another level was the manner in which they all went about it. I’m sure it’s trained for them to try to be bright and cheerful around patient's to create a pleasant atmosphere for healing. However it’s wonderful as patient to have a cleaner be cheerful and say something positive. Simply interact. The catering staff understanding their role as one of great importance. Smiling making jokes as they take your orders, deliver your food & clear up. Simply taking the time to interact. I was blown away by the food because you hear so many people knocking hospital food. I understand the criteria around food in hospitals and it’s logistics. Taking this into consideration what I received surpassed my expectations. Especially a simple cup of tea and a few biscuits at 02:30 am. In summary my experience of Torbay Hospital has been one of one of outstanding care. I’m truly appreciative of the way I was treated. At this level our NHS is in great hands Thank you Barry Hingston
