I attended the Eye Infirmary in March and April for two cataract operations. I would like to thank all of the staff for their professionalism, care and courtesy. I was advised when I was at primary school that I was short sighted as I found it difficult to read the blackboard. I am now 70 : so this is the first time I have been able to see ‘unaided’ in more than 60 years ! Thank you Sunderland Eye Infirmary !

Obnoxious and abrupt attitude from the triage nurse and also the Doctor. I think some training in how to speak to patients politely is needed. Terrible!

Waited nearly a year for an appointment they sent one for 8.45am so I left early at 7am in heavy snow. I arrived on time but had to wait over an hour to see an unprofessional female consultant there was no apology for my long wait and she had a really bad attitude claiming I had missed an appointment I pointed out that I was on time and was waiting for her. She then seemed to turn it around on me and claim I was abusing her so wouldn't see me. If you were professional and get to work on time and read the notes on your patients before seeing them it might put you in a better mood.

Even though extremely busy the staff were excellent. Through triage by very compassionate staff and through examination of eyes by consultant so can't ask for more

I would like to thank all staff I came into contact with during my 4 visits to the department, the most recent being on 14/2/2023 at 1300. The nurse who looked after me last Tuesday was especially caring.

i just really want to give some love to the nurse/hca (unsure) who gave my eye drops/pressure test in the macular unit morning of 15/2. she was so so lovely and made me feel a lot more comfortable and less anxious than i was walking in. amazing woman and i really appreciated the extra time you took with me, thank you!

Having been treated for Macula Degeneration since 2014, I have always been pleased with my treatment. On Monday afternoon 9th January 2023 I arrived for my check up, all went well, ending with my consultation with Doctor…….who had studied the results of various tests, he was courteous, informative, very reassuring and this 88 years young patient is very appreciative.

Had cataract removal surgery on 06/01/23 and othe service was absolutely brilliant. The nurse explained everything that was going to happen in theatre, was with me all through the treatment and then invited my wife to join me to explain the aftercare. I would give you 11 out of 10 if it were possible. Thank you

Staff were extremely friendly. I cant thank the receptionist enough for how friendly and quickly she arranged for the doctor to see my two week old baby after a mess about with another hospital left us not knowing what to do. Also I m so grateful for how much she calmed my nerves after traveling from Newcastle with a poorly newborn by simply telling me I was doing great with my daughter, when youre with a poorly child its the worst feeling in the world but she made me feel so much better about the whole experience. Also I need to thank the doctor that saw my daughter for how gentle and patient he was with my daughter and for him being so understanding of the situation. Honestly one of the best practices I have been to, after the nightmare I had elsewhere during the before it was amazing to actually be somewhere that listened and felt like they wanted to help my baby. The wait was so quick as people were straight in and out, the practice was spotless with all the staff well presented aswell. I can not fault the place.

I damaged my eye while gardening on Sunday, had an emergency triage appointment with my opticians at noon who referred me to Eye Infirmary. So by 4pm I was being seen by accident and emergency dept. Fast, efficient and effective treatment by highly professional staff. Home by 6pm. Thank you all so much.
