  1. Review titled Great hospital and procedures

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by John Mcalley - Posted on 26 November 2023

We have visited the hospital several times over the past 4 months because I've had ENT appointments and an MRI scan. My wife and i are very impressed in every way with the standards here. The staff are warm and helpful. The hospital itself is very welcoming. We felt it was important that you know this. Many thanks.

  2. Review titled Great Service

First time visiting St Helens Hospital for an appointment and the experience was amazing. All departments are clearly visible and colour-coded which makes it easier to find. Once where I needed to be there was an option to self-check-in which was easy to do. I didn't wait long before I was called in and the staff were very friendly and put my nerves at ease.

  3. Review titled Pharmacy wait

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Why does it take 50 minutes to dispense a prescription? Why do you have to use the hospital pharmacy in the first place? Why can you not use the normal neighbourhood pharmacies?

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent visit to our Pharmacy Department, we are sorry to hear that your visit did not meet expectations regarding the time that you waited for your medicine. We do endeavour to provide medications quickly however, for your safety, there are 5 different steps involved in dispensing every item of medication. There are approximately 400 prescriptions, many with multiple items contained, that are dispensed at each of our hospital sites every day. In terms of hospital pharmacy prescriptions, they are not valid for dispensing by a local community pharmacist, you must take it your GP who can then issue a prescription that you can take to your local pharmacy which would take more time. I hope this helps you to better understand the processes involved. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

  4. Review titled I feel like I'm being fobbed off at every appointment

    by Angie206 - Posted on 28 September 2023

I had an appointment to see the consultant to find out what is causing my bad vision in my right eye. This has been going on a while after numerous cancelled appointments over the years and also inconvenient appointment times as I have to take the whole day off work unpaid due to dilation drops and not being able to drive. My last app I was told everything seems OK but I need to see consultant to double check! Yet another appointment for the same check, just someone different. This morning waiting times weren't too bad but, I was given dilation drops then quite quickly called in to see consultant to be told the machine that looks at the back of my eye isn't working and I will have to come back at a later date when it is! So I had dilation drops in for nothing!Surely they knew this before giving me drops? I could have gone back to work. I have now lost a full day's pay for nothing and I'm none the wiser about my eye problem. Absolutely shocking, I feel like I'm being fobbed off at every appointment.

So impressed with the way I was treated by the doctor. He explained everything so clearly and the options for my kidney stone. I cannot praise the doctor enough. I was treated me with respect and compassion. The reception staff were lovely. Overall my experience was outstanding. Thank you to everybody.

  6. Review titled Poor follow up

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 30 August 2023

After receiving an urgent referral and undergoing various procedures, I was informed someone would be in touch in 24-48 hours with the results. 10 days later still no communication. Having rang the hospital between 5-10 times daily (and that’s no exaggeration as I’m happy to provide call log as proof should anybody at the hospital be interested). I have still not been able to speak to anybody in Urology as nobody answers the phone on any option and it either rings out or goes to answerphone. Very poor after care, especially considering the reasons behind why I was referred. Still no further forward as to what is wrong and the worry continues. Come on St. Helens hospital Urology department, answer your phone.

  7. Review titled Virtual Clinics

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Brian Finney - Posted on 16 August 2023

Had a regular appointment today 18th Aug. After arriving told it was to be a virtual clinic ie would not be seeing a doctor; eyes would be scanned and scan assessed later. This is the way forward, probably seen by doctor at alternate clinics. Can we have more virtual clinics. With the patient informed in the appt letter, to facilitate transport.

Hi Brian, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent attendance at Whiston Hospital, it is much appreciated. We are pleased that you have had a positive experience. The hospital does provide a large number of clinics virtually. It would have been necessary for you to attend in person to have the scan performed face to face.

  9. Review titled Excellent experience and excellent staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Michelle w - Posted on 05 August 2023

I attended yesterday to go into theatre at the Sanderson suite for ten trigger point injections. I have scoliosis, fibromyalgia and a lot of disc extrusion and protrusion. I live with chronic pain. I was dreading the appointment. I felt sick and worried. Every single member of staff treated me with the most excellent care. When I was took to theatre the staff including the consultant was absolutely brilliant. They reassured me right throughout, held my hand and kept talking to me. It was all done very quickly and nowhere near as bad as I expected. Afterwards I was given a cup of tea and a sandwich. I stayed until I was well enough to go. They kept me updated throughout. Thanks again to everyone. You made the experience less scary and I am so grateful for your help.
