  1. Review titled The team were phenomenal!

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Will Miles - Posted on 15 April 2024

I recently had a seizure at home which led to an MRI scan that identified a brain tumour. From the very start of the process, the service I received was 10/10. Scans were quick, consultation was booked in ASAP, contact was easy, the hospital stay was fine, all follow up help/questions were answered promptly & everyone was incredibly friendly/supportive throughout. Brain surgery (or any surgery...) is daunting but it certainly helps when the staff are all so nice, cheerful & positive. I can't remember anything from the surgery which I suppose is an indirect compliment to the anaesthetists work. However, the tumour was removed & I was back on my feet the following day so certainly a massive success from my point of view! The scar looks very neat & they only shaved a small section out of my hair (was expecting to be pretty much bald) I would still certainly advise trying to avoid getting a brain tumour in the first place (lol) but if you find yourself with one, be absolutely confident that you're in the safest of hands with the St Gs Neuro team :) Thanks again! Will

  2. Review titled First Class Care

I recently attended a long awaited Audiology appointment as an outpatient having been referred by my GP. The care I received was exceptional. I cannot sufficiently express my gratitude for being able to access such a high standard of specialist care.

  4. Review titled Shambolic Appointment Systems - lack of mutual respect

by Only a patient - Posted on 12 April 2024

Delays too often in outpatients of more than 90 minutes. Patients are asked not to be late but there is rarely corresponding courtesy for patient time afforded in these clinics. It would lovely if the staff apologised and acknowledged the inconvenience but it rarely happens. There are also issues around appointments being cancelled and rearranged at short notice with no cognizance that some patients also"work" and have to manage their time which is as valuable as that of those who work in hospitals - even the doctors. Fairly recently I was sent an appointment on, let us say, 1st February. A few weeks later this was moved to, let us say, 8th February. No problem, I was able to rearrange my diary. I declined a week of high profile research meetings that week and they were rearranged to 1st February with my employer and external stakeholders. This kept 8th February free for my appointment. I then received a letter cancelling the 1st February appointment and reinstating it to 8th February. The hospital messed me about twice already in relation to the appointment and it seems I am expected to drop everything and rearrange everything at the drop of a hat for the convenience of the hospital. When I contacted outpatient bookings to say I simply could not make the reinstated date of 1st February, and explained why, I was told the next available appointment would be on 1st April. This was not satisfactory and I asked for it to be earlier. This was not possible despite the fact the hospital was rescheduling appointments, not me. The letter confirming the April appointment says "please be aware that if you cancel and reschedule your outpatient appointment more than once you may be discharged back to the care of your GP and need to be re-referred". This is discourteous and unhelpful when it is not the patient continuously changing the dates. I hope the hospital's management may reflect about including such sentences in letters, ditto comments about being late or being rude to staff. In my experience it is your staff who run late and who are too often rude, not vice versa. Perhaps senior management could reflect on the modus operandi of their staff and moderate the tone of communication and the threats it contains. Some mutuality of respect and courtesy would be very welcome and is too often absent. Many patients hold professional jobs and their time is as valuable and their commitments as important as those of NHS staff. Please could the culture be addressed and the patients afforded as much respect as your staff. The NHS is free at the point of delivery. It is not free, we all contribute and it is such a shame we are expected to be grateful and accommodating for standards of service that would be tolerated in no other sector.

  5. Review titled Awful service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 March 2024

The staff were lovely but would repeatedly promise me the world and then leave me for hours in the corridor with no treatment after saying ‘5 mins’. All in all, I was waiting in the A&E room for four hours, I then got moved for an IV drip and they just left me for hours on a chair in a triage corridor. Everytime we asked for help they said you’ve only been here ten minutes, this started after we had been waiting for the IV for over an hour and went on for three hours. They showed no care at all for I’ll I was or how often I was being sick. The staff are clearly over worked and there is not enough room for the number of patients. I absolutely fear the next time I have to go into this hospital for any reason.

  6. Review titled Cancelled Oncology/Cancer appointments

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by SEB - Posted on 27 February 2024

Whilst I do not complain about the skill level of actual clinical staff, the administration and communication departments of this hospital are apparently shockingly inconsiderate of their actions. My mother is receiving cancer treatment for Stage 4 cancer. She was due to have a much awaited appointment with an oncologist today, but for some reason, last night at 6pm this hospital left a random voicemail telling her that her appointment had been canceled. No explanation, no re-scheduled appointment, just an anonymous message left for her from the admin telling her she had been canceled yet again. Not the first time this has happened, either. My mum is devestated. You can't go round cancelling cancer patients appointments with no explanation or rebooked date. It is cruel, and bears no consideration for the mental anguish caused (nor does it consider the clinical consequences of yet more delayed treatment). Just is dreadful service to the patients! Highly suggest loved-ones with cancer consider looking elsewhere for their NHS care, as this hospital seems to be overwhelmed and not able to provide the service we deserve.

  7. Review titled Great hospital and the kindest staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Mariana Orfanelli - Posted on 07 February 2024

My experience at St George’s was the best I have ever experienced in any hospital. Before and after my surgery at St George’s (St James wing) I received the highest amount of care, attention and kindness by the receptionist, nurses, surgeons and anaesthetists while maintaining the highest professionalism. This is the best hospital I have ever been treated in. Many thanks to all its staff and the NHS.

  8. Review titled Bad Pharmacy experience

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 26 January 2024

After successful facial surgery at the Lanesborough dermatology unit where I received excellent treatment and care, I was directed to the hospital pharmacy to collect my prescription of antibiotics. I was told there would be a wait of 40 minutes. After one hour, there were many patients who had been there before me still waiting. I could see many staff behind laughing and drinking coffee. Are they short staffed? 15 minutes had lapsed when no prescriptions had been dispensed through the hatch yet prescriptions already made up were visible on the table behind. At this point the smoke alarm went off and we were evacuated. I had had an early start to the day, had facial surgery and was in discomfort. There was no information as to how long we had to wait in the corridor so I went home without my antibiotics. The intention was to phone the dermatology unit to request that my prescription be sent electronically to a pharmacy near me or to my GP. This has not proved possible and I am left without antibiotics and a less than positive view of my experience at St George’s. I would, however, recommend the dermatology unit for their care and kindness without hesitation. But some improvements to the pharmacy are surely necessary.

Husband was admitted during the night following a fall downstairs. Sustained #ribs and head injury. From attendance of emergency crew / trauma/ discharge ward he received fantastic treatment. We were kept fully informed throughout stay. All staff friendly and professional. We can't thank you enough.

I appreciate hospitals are 'busy' but on the NHS website there are no contact details. When you do get through the phones can't take any more messages! Really?!
