Review titled High Dependency unit
Rated 4 stars out of 5
by Stephen Prudence - Posted on 28 September 2024
I was transferred from the Spire hospital late on Saturday night following a quintuple heart bypass operation. The staff were excellent , very professional and looked after me well for two days. However I got no sleep die to the very noisy air-conditioning units outside the window I was then transferred to a Cardiac ward where the night staff kept me awake talking . After 72 hours without sleep I self discharged ! I was refused my medication and my wife had to enlisted the help of my local practice and her persuasive skills to obtain my essential medication. I could say the bins in the room on the ward had not been emptied and the toilet had not been flushed after the previous patient left , but since I was hallucinating by then I can't be sure. Like any large organisation standards vary , I'm very thankfull for the great people who work in such a difficult environment.

Review titled Really good treatment.....but
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Mrs Sheila Rice - Posted on 04 September 2023
Went to A&E for what turned out to be a small kidney stone. From the time I got onto the assessment ward, the process was quite fast and pain killers administered very quickly. Moved to another ward. to have bloods, and arrangement for CT scan and Chest X-Ray which went very smoothly. This all took a while and I was eventually moved to a ward to wait for results. This, I think, could have been dealt with better. Nurses excellent and attentive. Around 8pmish a nurse came round and took temperature and blood pressure and said she was doing it then so I could be released when the results were in. An hour after that, a doctor came and said she'd just pop over and look at the X-Ray and come straight back. Two hours later a nurse came to check I was okay and I said I was still waiting for the results and explained what the doctor had said. She was surprised and said she'd chase them up as she wanted to get me to the ward I'd be staying in as soon as possible to make me comfortable. I was surprised that staying over night was mentioned and said I wouldn't be doing that and I wanted to go home. At this point my reaction to do this was made prior to knowing what the results were. She apologised that someone hadn't come to explain earlier and said she'd get another doctor to come down immediately to give the results of the days tests and what the plan was. Very soon after, gave a very the full explantion of why I needed to stay in, and said it in 'no uncertain terms'. I, of course, had no problem with this and stayed in for the rest of the checks to be done throughout the morning of the next day, and release early afternoon. I could see how busy all the staff are, from the time I arrived to the time I left, but do wonder if there was a way I could have been told much earlier in the evening, that I'd be staying overnight. My son had been with me all day and could have been sent home a lot sooner than midnight, had this been the case. Overall, everything but this area was brilliant. The staff calm and kind, and the facilities and food excellent. I hope there's a way this small issue of letting a patient know they'll be staying over night, earlier, rather than the last minute, might be something the department involved, could address. All in all, I'd always recommend, having had a couple of trips to A&E over the years, as they've always been really good. Thank you for what you do, and none of you get paid enough.

Review titled Exemplary care
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Carol - Posted on 22 August 2023
My father was admitted being very ill with covid and lots of underlying conditions. We knew he wouldn’t survive. He was placed in the isolation ward and the care and attention he and us as a family received was second to none. The respect, caring, diligence, compassion, humanity displayed by all staff, including the cleaners, was simply outstanding. We were initially concerned about him being admitted as we’d have preferred he passed away at home, and this was an option that we had. However on balance we decided to keep him in the hospital and we definitely made the right choice. He was treated with dignity and respect at all times. I cannot praise this hospital enough and want to say thank you to everyone involved in my father’s care.

Review titled Amazing
Rated 5 stars out of 5

I recently had Nuss bar surgery and I want to thank everyone involved. From the anaesthesia team, the surgery team, the doctors and nurses on the children’s ward even the physio. They gave me absolute care and attention, they made me feel comfortable and okay. I was unable to handle the pain and when I was in the second part of recovery before going to the childrens ward the nurses who were with me stayed longer than they should’ve because they wanted to help me and stay with me through the pain. Thank you to everyone, you made a scary experience into one of the best things ever, they way nurses who had seen me on day one saw me improve and got so excited for me made me happy. The way they comforted me when I made them aware that my cannula was hurting me and they decided to take it because it was kinked and unsafe to put back In. The physio who pushed me despite me hatred, thank you for putting up with me and my sass towards you guys. Everyone has made this an unforgettable experience and I can’t thank you enough

Review titled Outstanding Health/Medical Service
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Spike Menegaldo - Posted on 14 July 2023
Words cannot describe the incredible, marvellous service all the Health care Practioners provide in the Colorectal Surgery Department. In fact, the entire NHS service, from my GP surgery through to the Cpet Clinic, Ct Department, etc, etc has been simply excellent. I had the misfortune to be afflicted with a mildly serious illness, but I have the Good Fortune to be a recipient of the outstanding Medical Care of the staff in all the respective units outlined above.

From the first appointment to the day I left hospital. The service from all staff was and still is great , friendly so helpful and patient. Total respect to all staff . Shame I couldn’t thank them all face to face but it ran so smooth I was in and out . So thank you all again. PS I met some nice friendly patients which gave the wards an extra good feel thanks to them too .

Review titled Fantastic experience
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Lucy Chambers - Posted on 21 June 2023
I have recently had a diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis and from start to finish my experience within the Rheumatology department ha been exemplary. From the staff on reception, to the nurse who took my blood pressure, to the consultant and physio, they were all incredibly patient, professional, welcoming and generally exceeded all expectations. I was seen within 15 minutes of arriving, not rushed when in my appointment and felt thoroughly heard by the consultant I saw. I had my meds changed and was offered an X-ray immediately. I went to the main hospital where the radiographer practically greeted me at the door and I had my scans. Within half an hour of being home I was contacted with results and had a really supportive discussion with the consultant. I then received two more appointments in the post within 24 hours. One of which was for today, only 6 days after my initial one. I saw a wonderful physiotherapist who again, did not rush me, was professional, understanding and made me feel better about the journey ahead. I have been signposted to great sources of support, seen many amazing professionals and already feel so much better than I did last week, and the new meds have not even kicked in yet. I really cannot thank everyone enough, you are all doing such a fabulous job and I have seen this in every single person I have encountered in the rheumatology department. Thank you all so much
