  1. Review titled Quick resolution, sympathetic attitude

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 28 July 2023

Went to A&E with very swollen eye from a bee sting as advised by my local surgery. Although not particularly urgent or serious, I was seen quite quickly and the staff were very sympathetic and supportive. Once they established it wasn’t a serious allergic reaction, they located some steroids, advised me and sent me on my way. Total time, not much over an hour.

  2. Review titled Professional and compassionate.

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Gill Ranger - Posted on 28 July 2023

My elderly mother sadly passed away whilst being treated for pneumonia on Shawford Ward. The staff on the ward were all so professional, kind, compassionate and supportive during the 9 days my mum was in their care. There were many individuals who stood out, whether from providing a cup of tea and a hug, to those providing dignified personal care for mum, to the Drs, Consultant and nurses who treated mum and made her last days as comfortable as possible. Recent, previous experiences of poor care for my mother on other wards, within the same hospital, had left me with low expectations and concerns that we would experience the same again but my fears were unfounded. Shawford Ward is a busy ward but all the staff we encountered were amazing and made me feel that nothing was too much trouble, despite being very busy. The Drs and the consultant, all took the time to discuss mum's condition and her treatment with myself and my family and listened and responded appropriately when we raised any concerns. Being made to feel involved and fully informed as mum's condition changed, really helped us to come to terms with a very sad and difficult situation. I'd like to say thank you to all on Shawford Ward for their kindness, compassion, professionalism and as importantly for restoring my faith in the hospital and the fabulous job our NHS do.

  3. Review titled Fracture kneecap

    by Jack654 - Posted on 12 June 2023

I fell and fractured my kneecap. Went to A&E RHCH and was fitted with a brace, to remain on for 6 weeks.  I was given a walking frame.

  4. Review titled Really Helpful and Kind

Rated 4 stars out of 5

The staff at the hospital did everything they could to help me through a process that I felt very nervous about. I rarely visit hospitals (I do my best to stay away), so I can find hospitals - and their administration - a little confusing. I mixed up the times of a scan - but they still managed to fitted me in. At one point I got lost between buildings, but a really kind porter from Medical Imagery helped me to find the right door. Thank you all very much. Your help and time was really appreciated.

Day after operation, was in a lot of pain and I’m sorry to say the physio I had was brutal I nearly passed out and when I got back to the ward I was in the other patients said I was as white as a ghost I have never experienced anything so agonising my husband was so worried about me, I could have gone home that afternoon but I was in so much pain I had to stay in another night, as for my operation, nurse’s ,theatre staff all of those people to many to mention where absolutely wonderful can not fault them done everything possible to make my stay as happy and comfortable as possible even the food was delicious. This hospital in my opinion is absolutely outstanding.

  6. Review titled Paramedics were great, very competent and kind.

    by neptunenk37 - Posted on 15 May 2023

Fell off a set of small steps while cleaning ground floor windows. Flung myself to the right to avoid falling on the rockery. Landed hard on my right side on grass. Couldn't move to start off with, then managed to hitch on my bottom inside the house. A lot of pain in my groin, couldn't put any weight on my right leg. I knew I hadn't broken my hip as it's a titanium one, but really worried I'd cracked a bone in my pelvis or something. Rang 111 first and they were really kind and reassuring. They arranged an ambulance. Had to wait several hours but that was understandable as I wasn't an emergency. Paramedics were great, very competent and kind. At the hospital I had X-rays done; no bones broken. I was in a ward for a time resting, then I was given crutches and practised walking a few yards. Very nervous as still in a lot of pain but able to go home. Over a week later I'm still on crutches as I still have to take some of the weight off my right leg, and I'm still taking painkillers, but definitely improving.

  7. Review titled Amazing A&E Department

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 May 2023

I attended here with my Daughter on a Saturday afternoon, expecting to be there for hours (had I needed to it wouldn't have been a bother) We were initially checked in my a wonderful receptionist, then into the paediatrics waiting room, swiftly called into the back to be assessed. Then seen my the X-Ray team and back to the wonderful nurses/clinical staff members to be given the results. I cant express enough how lovely every member of staff here was. I though I may have been wasting their time as it may have only been a minor injury. However it was actually broken. We were in and out within 2 hours! We are so very lucky to have this service on our doorstep! Thank you to everyone working in the A&E department - especially the paediatrics department who we dealt with on this occasion.
