We found the staff and general atmosphere of the hospital to be welcoming and reassuring at a difficult time. Full marks and thank you.

  2. Review titled System failure

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Alun r davies - Posted on 30 January 2024

Having booked a blood test on line it was clear on arrival the service was failing. It took staff 20 minutes after my arrival to advise that the system was down and that as a result of staff shortages they would have to write down the names of everyone waiting and that delays of 40 to 50 mins were envisaged. I left.

Dear Alun Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience with us. I am sorry to hear of the delays you experienced, I can appreciate how frustrating that must have been for you. We are aware that the department was very busy at the time you attended, and the waits were longer than they usually are. I am sorry about that. I would like to assure you that your feedback has been shared with the clinical leads of our phlebotomy services and please do contact our PALS and Complaints team if you would like us to follow-up with you personally. They can be contacted at PALSandcomplaints@hhft.nhs.uk or 01256 486766. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience and I’m sorry that we didn’t get it right this time. Kind regards Alex Whitfield Chief Executive

I was instructed to bring my mum to A&E due to her ongoing health issues she 89 with vascular dementia and alzhiemers and was 8gnorer for @15 hours she was treated as a piece of meat and not a human being, you would not treat an animal the way my dear mum was treated, end result now she is very scared of going Winchester hospital, a total disgrace.

All the staff were professional and respectful. There were no delays in being attended to. The only waiting time I experienced was waiting for the blood test results.

  5. Review titled I felt I just had to say how amazing all of the staff were

    by Bonnie750 - Posted on 15 December 2023

I had an operation on my right breast and I felt I just had to say how amazing all of the staff were. I have been in a few private hospitals over the years but this ward and staff surpass them.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I was sent to A and E on Oct 7th with very high blood pressure. I was very grateful for the care from the Triage team and particularly with the young Doctor during that night carrying out tests, so kind and reassuring. I felt fortunate to have such good care and service at our local hospital.

  7. Review titled Excellent treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Janice Lucas - Posted on 12 November 2023

Had concerns over pains in my joints after suffering from breast cancer. Had a very quick appointment and, the consultant was lovely and understanding of my concerns. Had further tests arranged within two weeks. Staff at winchester X-ray department and the nuclear medicine at Basingstoke hospital equally as lovely and explained everything so well.

  8. Review titled Exemplary care

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David Lucas - Posted on 16 September 2023

I came in to a&e with a hypertensive crisis, at a point where the nhs online advice is to seek urgent medical help. I was given detailed and extremely kind attention throughout, and always made to feel it had been the right thing to do in attending a&e. Major tests all carried out as promptly as possible, a Consultant reviewed all the results with a new medication prescribed, and further tests to be organised has left me feeling a great deal less anxious now than 24hrs ago. My final overriding thought was just how kind everyone was to me from Triage to leaving the Dept. Which makes a significant diffference when you have a real problem and really scared. So great thanks from me, David Lucas

  9. Review titled Great service but lacking one thing

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ian smith - Posted on 10 October 2023

The reception, doctors and nurses couldn’t do more than the do, they are exceptional. My problem was that I’d been there eight and a half hours with nothing to eat so when the doctor asked me to wait and see someone else I just left. I felt better when I arrived, by now I was getting hot, delirious and starving. My whole point is not about me, wouldn’t it be possible to put a vending machine and a coffee machine in the waiting area if people are going to have to wait that long. Not only would you be providing a service it would also make a profit towards the upkeep of such a valuable service.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience of our emergency department services. It is lovely to hear of the care received from our staff, but I am sorry to hear of the difficulties you encountered in accessing refreshments during your visit. I can appreciate how challenging this must be whilst waiting for care and treatment. There are vending machines in the minors waiting area but not in the chairs waiting area. We do provide a table with squash/water in the majors chairs area and we do have sandwiches for patients who have been waiting for a period of time but these are not obvious and need the patient to request or for the nurse to offer, and clearly you were not offered these. I am very sorry. I would like to assure you that your feedback has been shared with the clinical leads of our emergency departments, who are reviewing how refreshments are better made available to patients waiting. Please do contact our PALS and Complaints Team if you wish to discuss your experience further. They can be contacted via email: PALSandcomplaints@hhft.nhs.uk or telephone: 01256 486766. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience with us. Kind regards Alex Whitfield Chief Executive
