  1. Review titled A superb service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Stuart Atkins - Posted on 13 March 2024

I was referred to A&E from another department at the hospital for heart attack and stroke tests. The service I received from all of the staff was exemplary, from the receptionist to the doctor, I could not have received better care anywhere. The waiting time was short and the attention I received was very respectful, professional and caring. My sincere thanks to you all.

  2. Review titled Missed appt due to poor parking, attitude of security staff

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 20 February 2024

I'd love to be able to give a review of my experience in the hospital, but I can't. I had an appointment there today for my yearly CPAP check. Drove around for 1.5.hrs trying to find a parking space, but couldn't so never made the appointment!! Waste of mine and the NHS's time!! I'm also disabled and when trying to join the queue for the disabled card park all I got was seriously bad attitude from the security guard and told to move on!!

  3. Review titled Great staff, very caring

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Sarah - Posted on 17 February 2024

I attended Derby a&e after being sent from ripley urgent care. When arriving the waiting room was so full so I expected a long evening. The staff were seeing people as soon as they could. When it was time for me to go through I was so glad the staff were so understanding and helpful. They got me on the right treatment very quickly. I honestly can't thank all the staff that night, if it wasn't for them acting that quick I would of been staying in. Thank you!

  4. Review titled Looked after well but day case ward is unsuitable

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 February 2024

I spent 4.5 weeks as an inpatient at ward 209 and the gynaecology day case ward. I cannot fault the nursing and doctors care which was always kind, thorough and reassuring. Ward 209 was clean and well run. However I spent a week on the day case ward which was less satisfactory. Here there were only 2 bathrooms for about 18 patients and these were only cleaned very poorly once an evening. On 2 occasions I went to the loo and there was a spot of blood on the floor that was still there several hours later. I picked up a UTI in this ward. Also there are no windows that open and hardly any space. I can understand this area being used for single overnight stays but it's really not suitable for any longer.

  5. Review titled Backlog

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 07 February 2024

My check up for eye pressure was 13months late coming through and then it turned out to be just a field test. I told the nurse, who was very nice, that my problem was with pressure. She told me that because of the backlog, they’re trying to see as many patients as possible, and doing the full tests would take too long. In other words, quick appointments to ‘tick the box’ I paid £18 in taxis as I thought I might have drops in. Very expensive and pointless visit

  6. Review titled First class treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I contacted 111 on Sunday morning. I had internal bleeding and was extremely weak. The entire treatment I received from everyone was exceptional from the paramedics who took me to A&E, the staff in A&E the treatments I received including endoscopy to find the cause scans, a blood transfusion and an ultrasound scan. I was monitored day and night and moved by porters who appeared to take me to the next department. By Tuesday morning I knew what the problem was, that it was under control and that I should be released on Wednesday following an additional night of checks. A pharmacist came to sort out my leaving medication and I was discharged Wednesday afternoon. I lost count of the number of highly qualified people who looked after me and in most cases I only saw them for a short period of time and do not know their individual names. This is why I want to write this review to thank each and everyone of them. Not only were they professional they were kind. It was an amazing logistical operation. I do not have to go back other than for an outpatients appointment in a few weeks. They were absolutely fantastic and I am extremely grateful.

My son was very poorly and the service he received from the ambulance service to A&E until we left was really good and we couldn't thank the staff enough. They were all very friendly and helpful. Many thanks from the English family.

  8. Review titled A special place filled with special people.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by David James - Posted on 07 February 2024

I would just love to thank everyone involved in my passage through my first stay in hospital. I took an interest in how it all works and learned loads.12 hours in A and E on Saturday seemed excessive but I have no complaints because when I eventually met the Doctor, I had all of his attention and felt like I was important which put my mind at rest and speeded the whole journey through following his treatment. A&E staff were fantastic and do a great job often in very difficult circumstances and even more difficult people. It was decided that I spend a few nights in with them so I went from CT scan to SAU who again explained everything a out my condition and its treatment. From there I went to Ward 307 and the staff were fantastic, really looked after me and couldn't do enough for me on dayshift and on nightshirt, just lovely caring people. Back home today Wednesday for a couple of months then back in for a little op. In closing, Thank you for my journey starting with the Ambulance people right up to the lady who gave me my last coffee in the Depart area from me and my family x

  9. Review titled Can't access hospital. Parking impossible.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Andy - Posted on 05 March 2024

Ironically I opted to get referred to Derby as my nearest hospital (Sheffield Hallamshire) have made it impossible for disabled patients to park. I have had to miss two appointments now at Sheffield due to this and decided never to go there again. I made the 35 mile trip from near Sheffield to Derby for a urology appointment I had waited a year for and I arrived well early at 9.45am, a good hour and a half before my appointment. When I arrived I discovered that all cars are funnelled around a tiny roundabout near the entrance off the main road, causing traffic. Then I made my way to the first car park and there were cars queueing and waiting for a car to exit so that one car at a time could enter through barriered gate. I drove to the next car park. Exactly the same. Queue of cars a mile long all stood waiting. I was driving around the loop of the hospital and needed a disabled blue badge space ideally so the further away the worse it was for me. Every single car park around the loop of the hospital grounds was full and had a tailback of cars queueing and this was at 9.45am! Eventually I just gave up and could not have the appointment I had waited a year for. I rang the phone number on my appointment letter to let them know I could not attend and nobody picked up so I gave up. I am autistic and the journey was stressful enough but to be met with this shambles of a car park circus upon arriving was really difficult to self-manage emotionally in terms of anger and anxiety. The hospital is inaccessible to disabled patients who arrive by car and I won't ever be asking to be referred here again as it is pointless because there is nowhere to park. Whoever is responsible for parking and estates needs to have their competence scrutinized. Complete waste of N H S resources and a waste of patients time if they can't even access the hospital in the first place! Absurd place. Stay well away.

  10. Review titled Great Hospital Team

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Julie Hook - Posted on 14 February 2024

I had bariatric surgery 2 years ago now, and have just had my review and have been discharged. The staff are fantastic, they listen to your needs and explain everything to you in terms you understand. They showed kindness and curtsey throughout my stay and all follow-up appointments (the video link appointments are very easy to navigate). You can call with any questions and you will be listened to and be reassured. I would recommend this hospital and the staff I worked with.
