Review titled No Follow Up
Rated 2 stars out of 5

My experiences have not been great when dealing with the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department. I have tried multiple times to chase up something after my appointment, having spoken to a secretary twice, and despite being promised someone would call me back no-one has. Other people have chased them up also on my behalf including my doctor’s surgery and pals at the hospital. It was bad enough being told you have a liver condition, and then just being dismissed with a link to a website to read about it, let alone trying to chase them up to ask further questions. Is it really that hard to call back someone. I have not been rude or aggressive in my communications, I simply have some further questions about my care plan. I find now though rather than call me back, they have decided to send me for an ultrasound scan, first I knew of it was when an appointment turned up in the post. Had they done their research, they would have seen I have already had two ultrasound scans in the last 12 months, so I do not see the benefit in going for another.

Review titled Marvellous staff working under extreme pressure
Rated 4 stars out of 5

I bought my daughter to a&e with pneumonia. All the staff were caring and professional. They were obviously extremely busy, but continued service with a smile. Good explanations. We had to wait but seen promptly when my daughter collapsed in the waiting area. I just think the staff were wonderful working under such stress. Thank you.

Was at hospital for 10 hours waiting to see a surgeon for my son, to be told after 12am it could be longer than 7 hours or more for him to actually see one, depending on what emergencies came through the door as junior doctors have gone on strike,

Review titled Sleek and efficient service at the Emergency Department
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by JANET J - Posted on 22 December 2023
I attended the Royal Bolton Hospital Emergency Department on 21st December, suffering from chest and upper back pain. It was around 6am when I arrived. I had anticipated having to wait around for many hours but this was not the case and I was booked in, seen and assessed quickly by a triage nurse and a cardiac nurse and also other staff who carried out an ECG, took bloods and carried out an x-ray. Results were conveyed to me in a timely manner and as they could not find anything of concern, I was discharged quickly - certainly within 4 hours. Having not attended the emergency department in years, I was pleasantly surprised, especially as I work in the NHS and am aware of the extreme pressures staff are working under, together with long waiting times. I would add that I am not someone who gives praise easily, but in this case, because the service was so sleek and efficient, I felt I must give compliments where due.

Review titled Hard work, skill and compassion
Rated 5 stars out of 5
by Mrs Sarah Lomax - Posted on 08 December 2023
My sister was in an RTA. Within 3-4 hrs she was x rayed, stitched up and home in one piece. Despite the extreme challenges of a busy A&E department she was treated with kindness and skill. I can't thank the staff enough. I am a nurse myself but what you do in this highly stressful department is amazing. Thank you so much.

Review titled Utterly uncaring
Rated 1 star out of 5

Having had my appointment to see a consultant regarding a hernia cancelled twice, with the original date of June becoming September and then February 2024, my hernia grew steadily bigger and more painful - to the point that it became necessary to come to A & E. Spent the entire day nil by mouth waiting to hear if I was having surgery, only to be told that it would be done the following morning. Remained nil by mouth. Signed all the consent forms and was told I’d be collected by lunchtime. Sat that entire day waiting around, not being told anything, to eventually be told late afternoon that it wasn’t happening, and “perhaps tomorrow”. Surgeon then eventually decides to speak to me, only to say that they’re not convinced that the risk is worth it and perhaps we should wait until it becomes an emergency. So, rather than deal with a problem that is leaving me in constant pain and destroying my quality of life, a surgeon decides that it might be better (for who?) to wait until it becomes life threatening. The lack of communication, compassion and care for patients shown by surgeons at this hospital is staggering. It seems to me that once they reach the lofty heights of consultant and become a ‘Mister’ they completely lose sight of the fact that they are first and foremost a doctor. I accept that risk of surgery and all it entails. It’s my choice. Yet I’m not being given the choice. It’s not good enough.

Review titled Excellent

We attended with our son who had come off his motorbike. We were directed to minors and although it was an extremely long wait when we were seen the emergency practitioner was fab (D). She reassured my son and explained everything to him so he could understand. Very professional, efficient and absolutely lovely. Would definitely go to Bolton again (hopefully we wont need to). Well done

I attended A&E yesterday after being sent by my gp. From arriing at 4.30pm I was looked after by a number of people in the dept. I first went for an ECG and bloods the gentleman there was lovely, he made me feel relaxed. I then went to Triage again was looked after and made to feel special. A lovely Cardiac nurse then toom me under her wing for the rest of my tim in the dept (which was roughly 2 hours 40 mins). She was amazing explaining everything in detail.. then off to xray again lovel caring staff. I was discharged by the lovely nurse feeling a lot happier than I had in 2 days... well done to you all!! So much pressure but still had time for me.. Thankyou for making my scary visit so pleasent
