  1. Review titled Disappointed to say the least

by Keeley Watts - Posted on 20 May 2024

I am extremely disappointed that in the 3 years since I was referred to this hospital as the apparent specialists in "IIH" I have been told that they won't consider treatment unless I have papilodema which in all my years of having the condition I have not had. I have also been chasing a referral to neurosurgeon which should have happened at the get go in 21 and has now only just been placed in November 23 meaning I could still have around 12/18 months until I see someone. Referral have been placed with Shunt Specialist nurse on 4 separate occasions but when you call to chase an appointment you are told there is no referral. As it stands I am being treated for migraines which I don't suffer with and my shunt has failed vision is failing tinnitus is ridiculous to the point of hearing loss dizziness and vomiting but being left all because I do not have papilodema. Surprised and shocked by this treatment after being told they were the best in the country.

  2. Review titled Excellent service provided

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Ian Leaver - Posted on 19 October 2023

I attended the liver department on Wednesday 18th October to attend my liver checkup. The departments run most efficiently. After checking in at the desk I was weighed and a short while later I was seen by a consultant. He was cheerful, informative and listened intently to my concerns. He didn't seem to rush and answered all my queries. I then returned to the waiting room and took a ticket for a blood test which occurred a few minutes later. I then went to the pharmacy which was very busy but I was treated courteously and efficiently. Then off home. The only problem I had was finding a parking space on arrival which took us a good twenty minutes. I have always been more than pleased with the service I have received. What wonderful hospital which saved my life in 2020.

  3. Review titled Mixed grades of care

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 02 November 2023

My surgery was very long but successful, thank fully and thank you to the team. My initial care in epoc was poor and unhelpful. Nights on my first ward stay, also proved unhelpful. Daytime staff and day and night time staff, (as I progressed to more manageable care ,) were excellent. Possibly I had withdrawal symptoms from my normal prescription medication, which was slow in being properly instigated. This medication has been long established in me for mental health condition. Want to praise the staff of my 2nd week stay but I hope others don’t experience the suffering I had to contend with during my initial nursing care and treatment. It was an unhealthy atmosphere. Thankyou to surgical team and caring staff with true vocations.

ox overall Walker is atrocious on five one seven I'm not naming names because I don't know names but my previous experience is on five one eight we're fantastic but on 517 you can push the butter and not be saying for over an hour which is a renders especially when you're lainey in your next or an extreme pain the nurses come give you a medication after time I don't give you four medication and then they don't even answer a question I just leave it on the side and leave so overall I tried us six hours I was left on an air mattress lighted laying in a sheet that had my urine on it because of a capital coming apart so they were later even after conscience request for assistance nothing so this makes the B looked into and dealt with overall horrendous on this particular walk

  5. Review titled With thanks......................

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I wish to recommend the nurse who looked after me in Ambulatory Care when I had a stent removed following a kidney transplant. She was professional but friendly, efficient and empathetic. Even though she was on her own after 3.00.p.m. she got me discharged on time. Also the nurse who offered to hold my hand and chatted to me throughout the procedure. Thanks for everything, I'm grateful.

My 91 year old mother was a patient on Enhanced Peri-Operative Care Unit following a cholecystectomy via keyhole surgery. The surgeon, anaesthetist and nursing care was excellent. My mother was treated with compassion, respect and kindness. I cannot thank everyone involved in my mothers care enough. You are a great team

  7. Review titled Thank you all for your time, support and caring

    by Welford097 - Posted on 05 October 2023

I want to say a big thank you to all the staff in the Ambulatory Care Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for all their help during my admission. I was very well looked after by the whole team. I couldn't fault the hospital and the care team as they were very helpful and professional during my admission. I want to say a huge thank you to all the nurses on the unit for making me feel reassured during my admission as I do tend to get anxious. Keep up the hard work team, as you are all doing really well and I know how stressful it can be on a ward and also when you are at high demand. Once again, thank you all for your time, support and for being so caring during my admission to the ward.

  8. Review titled Poor nursing service night shift

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Barrister Safraz Rashid - Posted on 21 September 2023

I have been hospital last 2 weeks. There really excellent nurses but the night shift staff really annoying. You press the busser and by the time someone comes you forget why you pressed the busser. The qualified nurses come to give medication the rest is the helpers and trainees. On 20 September i had kidney stent procedure and back in the ward 1930. The night shift started i was in pain i asked the helpers that i need to speak to a doctor they kept saying they have informed them. After 3 hours i asked for the nurse allocated to me. The nurse came and after me complaing to her she gave me my medication and called the doctor straight away. My experience has been mixed at QE Birmingham. I am concerned that you have more unqualified staff then the qualified nurses. The trust should consider the service provided.

  9. Review titled Very unprofessional after care

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 16 February 2024

Several emails left to see surgeon face to face who operated on me, have requested direct email for the individual also, most emails ignored bar one advising surgeon does not "meet" patients post op. Sister has left voice messages also, again being ingnored. No one is helping me or giving me answers as to what caused my operation being unsuccessful. I would strongly not recommend this hospital to anyone who is thinking about being a patient with them especially if you are from out of town & deaf.

  10. Review titled Mental Health Crisis Challenging for all

Rated 3 stars out of 5

by Sheryl King - Posted on 04 October 2023

I write about this experience not as a complaint but as a learning opportunity for the department. We attended with our 22 year old son who was experiencing an acute deterioration in his mental health. He was having a psychotic episode with religious delusions, auditory and visual hallucinations. Nursing staff did their best and on arrival we were initially placed in a children’s side room which was well meant but inappropriate for a young adult in a confused state. Formal detainment was recommended and we had 26 hour wait before a Mental Health bed was found. During this time our son was escalating due to his confusion and my husband and I had to contain him as he wandered around in distress and unfortunately as he refused oral medication to calm him had to be restrained and given an intra muscular injection ( this was incredibly distressing). Overall an extremely challenging experience for all but our son especially and one that raises the need for staff training and suitable therapeutic space for patients attending A & E with mental ill health.
