    I attended UTC following a fall my child has resulting in him going over on his ankle. In which he could not apply fully pressure, his foot was swollen, he was complaining it hurt, couldn't put shoes on and at some points was screaming out in pain. His foot was also cracking and had popped before taking him in, following advice from 111. The waiting time is not the issue, and I fully understand the severity of the doctors strikes. My child would not be here if it wasn't for the NHS. My issue here is we were triaged and told he would be going to have an xray and to wait in the waiting area. I even questioned how they xray a hyperactive toddler. All fine. An hour and a half later, his name gets called again. I thought we were going to the xray so I had my partner wait in the waiting area while we went. To then have no mention of an xray and be triaged again and told to just give him paracetamol. I was made to feel as though I shouldn't have taken him, and I was just wasting time. When actually they wasted their own time wasted, but mine also. As well as other patients in the waiting area who were waiting to be triaged. I was advised not to feed my child before attending. So I didn't. So a very hungry toddler, an unnecessary extra 1.5 hour wait and told to just take paracetamol, despite being told he was having an xray.

I was particularly disappointed to note that you were made to feel as though you should not have taken your child to the department. I cannot begin to imagine how upsetting and frustrating that must have been. Please be assured that what you have described is not the person-centred approach to patient care that all of our staff aim to achieve.     For the treatment I had the waiting time was acceptable. Treated with respect and courtesy. My age ( 80) was taken into consideration.

    I found the staff in this department very knowledgeable and caring. They explained everything to me in a manner I could understand because on the day of my visit I left my hearing aids out because of the interference and feedback the aids were picking up . The department is clean and spacious and plenty of privacy. I would give them 10 out of 10 .

    I attended UTC following deterioration of ongoing illness. Staff I dealt with were unsympathetic and dismissive. I was made to feel as though I shouldn’t have attended and had wasted their time. At one point I actually felt embarrassed and questioned why I had attended despite feeling very unwell. Staff were polite in manner however the way in which the situation was dealt with and the language they used was very disappointing.

    Son attended today at 1pm. Told a 3 he waiting time, then at around 4pm was told was 6 hour waiting time. It’s now 7.34pm n he’s still waiting. Absolutely outrageous that people have to sit 7+ hours to be seen, surely it doesn’t take that long to deal with patients.

Unfortunately, we are seeing a huge demand for our services, with high attendances at our Emergency Departments and Urgent Treatment Centre. This means that our patients are waiting much longer than we would like. Please be assured that we are doing everything we can to reduce the length of time our patients are waiting in the department.     I had a hip replacement in December. From the minute I was referred for treatment everyone has been friendly, professional and helpful. This includes the nurses, cleaners, The physios , the people that organise the surgeons list, surgeons secretary, the anaesthetists and the surgeon. They are all fabulous role models for the nhs.

    After having had cancer (Hodgkins lymphoma) as a young man I was left with very high anxiety levels regarding anything that involved doctors or hospitals. On the day of my surgery for a total shoulder replacement I was beyond myself with all I can describe as 'fear'. All levels of staff at Pontefract Hospital were fantastic at helping reduce my very high anxiety levels in particular the anesthesiologist who was a very empathetic and extremely understanding young man I can honestly say I don't think I would have coped without the caring understanding nature of this chap. Overall I am very happy with the treatment I received and am now on the road to recovery, everyone involved throughout my procedure and aftercare have been second to none.

    Our daughter was maulled by a dog and in shock. On arrival at the hospital the receptionist could see her condition and took her straight through to a bed to be seen by a doctor immediately. The staff were so caring and kind with her and managed to calm her whilst dealing with her injuries. Thank you so much for making a horrible situation easier to deal with.

    Ive visited twice this year on both occasions i expected long waits, 1st occasion 13minutes and left with the prescription i needed, then 2nd visit didnt see a triage nurse, seen by doctor who explained what was wrong left fully confident that at least i knew what was wrong and all in 20mins of going in, this is my nearest hospital and would always be my first choice, thanks great team
