  1. Review titled Blood Test disappointment

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Deborah Higgs - Posted on 23 March 2023

My mother had a blood test appointment at Orsett hospital. When we arrived there was a long queue of patients waiting to book in at the desk, the receptionist was having a discussion with a patient which lasted at least 10 minutes. By the time we got to the front of the queue we were told first of all that the clinic was running 40 minutes late (which was fine). We were then told that we were 15 minutes late and we could not be seen. We explained that we had been waiting in the queue which at this point was out of the surgery door. The receptionist was dismissive and stated that patients were given a 5 min window in terms of lateness and that we hadn't been in the queue that long. My Mum has Alzheimer's and it was a task to park, walk to the blood department and to be told that she couldn't be seen was frustrating and disappointing. 5 minutes is not long enough to allow for lateness for patients with additional needs and considering the queue was longer than 10 minutes and the clinic were 40 minutes behind, seemed unfair that we were bluntly dismissed.

  3. Review titled Efficient Service

Be aware that before 10am you put your name on a list and wait. I arrived at 09:30 and was 6th; by 10:00 there must’ve been 30 people there! My advice is do as I did: 1. Put your name on the list 2. Pay for your parking (by Main Entrance/Cafe 3. Get a coffee 4. Go back to MIU and wait I was convinced I’d dislocated my thumb in a car accident but they said it wasn’t dislocated just tendon damage so wouldn’t let me have an x-ray. My persistence paid off as I got an x-ray although it confirmed it wasn’t dislocated, but at least I now know for sure. If you do as I did, be prepared to be told I told you so! She was right, I didn’t wait too long and they kindly issued me a wrist/thumb splint which is helping protect it. Overall it was a better experience than I expected. Thank you.

They don’t open on time so if you’re in need or urgent care because you are in acute pain - standing outside in a line whilst they sort themselves out is not the one…. So many people in agony only 2 benches to sit

I went to Minor Injures department at Orsett Hospital 2days ago luckily 4th in line. Reception was very sympathetic and professional when my turn came the nurse was so kind and put me at ease. I had cut my foot with an angle grinder and had to have six stitches. Thank you all for your time also your professional and sympathetic attitude. Keep up the great work. Geoff Shepherd

  6. Review titled Suspected Broken hand/knuckle

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Chris Hawkins - Posted on 09 August 2022

I went here today for minor injuries as I have been experiencing severe pain in my hand/knuckle/finger for over 3 weeks. I do not visit the hospital for nothing. The nurse would not even send me for an x ray and basically told me it was fine. How she can tell that by looking at I do not know. I will be going private as this experience was a complete joke.

Took my mum of 88 after a call in which she had cut her arm and she just needed it dressing. When the nurse finally came to see her in the waiting room and was told she was on aspirin he told us she would have to go for scans on her back and chest at Basildon. We had not even mentioned any pains and feel this was just an excuse to get rid of us as they were turning people away from 11 am as they were short staffed. Now have been told no one can come and dress it until she has been to the hospital.

Went in for an ankle injury, was checked then X-ray, was given new crutches and saw nurse, who showed me exercises. Still awaiting 2nd opinion on X-ray after being sent home. Whole experience was 1h 30m.

  9. Review titled Fabulous service by professional staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

Visited Orsett Minor Injuries Unit today. Following an incident whilst moving a wardrobe my husbands wrist and fingers became very sensitive to touch and very swollen caysing restricted use. We went along to the MIU to get it checked out. From checking in with the very helpful and polite receptionist, seeing the doctor, having an X-ray taken and back to the doctor with X-ray results all in around 2 hours. All the professionals we encountered were an absolute credit to the NHS - thank you for providing a great service and thankfully no wrist break.

  10. Review titled Inadequate service

Rated 1 star out of 5

Unfortunately after waiting to be seen for 3 I was laughed out of the unit with in 5 minutes. I have an existing knee injury as a PE teacher. The nurse slapped my leg around a bit and assumed as I could walk and there was no swelling I was lied. She hurt me and the. Told me to go to my GP, I asked for a referral for an MRI as I had previously had an ACL reconstruction and explained it felt the same she said no go to your GP and as I left she said ‘good luck’ which was very condescending! Terrible experience and have gone away with no answer and more pain than I stated!
