I had a pre-booked appointment for the covid vaccine. I had previously been text by my doctor's surgery to have the covid and Flu booster, but due to limited availability I was not able to attend my practice. My practice informed me to book my boosters online. When I arrived, I was able to give my reference and gave the answer 'no', to the relevant listed questions. There was no question of my attendance at this point. I get to the front of the line to be asked why I was there? I explained I was eligible to have both boosters at my GP practice, and was told to book at a vaccination centre. I explained this and was asked what I had and who said I could have the boosters? Again, explained I was due to have at my practice but was unable to attend. Gave a short list of my health conditions. I was told you're not immune suppressed, so you don't meet criteria. The person had to go off to check with someone that my conditions actually made me eligible. I had to repeat my personal information twice at this stage. All of this was in front of a line of people, listening in, delaying the queue. When seated I was first asked if I was in social care. To which my answer is no, I have health conditions. I was looked up and down, and said "you'll need to tell me what 'wrong' with you". Nothing wrong with me, I have various health conditions that put me at risk and I am disabled. To which I had to all my 'wrongs', for the third time. This still was not good enough. I had to explain, again that I was due to have this all done at my GP practice but was not able to attend due to availability. The nhs Constitution sets out the rights you have as a patient of nhs services. All healthcare staff should involve the person in decisions and treat them with kindness, dignity and respect. The nmc code was not followed at all in my situation. I was not treated with kindness, respect or compassion. There was no avoidance of making assumptions and no recognition of diversity. Little respect and uphold my human right. Failure to recognise when people are anxious or in distress and respond compassionately and politely. Worst of all there was no respect my right to privacy and confidentiality. I felt utterly embarrassed and humiliated because I didn't fit the over 50's box or the stereotypical disabled person. Under the Equality Act 2010 I do not have to disclose all of my personal health information, especially in a public space where there were people listening in. I should not have to justify and explain my health conditions. I was eligible for the boosters, I meet the online booking criteria and did not say yes to any of the risk question you are given on the day. This information sharing was not safe. If you do not meet certain criteria whilst booking online, you cannot book an appointment. Even if you maybe at high risk from covid-19 you are still able to book. I am not pregnant, not a frontline health or social worker, but I am at risk if I get flu or covid.
