  1. Review titled Day surgery experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lisa Fleming - Posted on 10 February 2024

I came into New Cross to have nasal polyps removed under general anaesthetic. Everyone that I came into contact with was so helpful and caring. I felt able to talk about my nervousness and was genuinely listened to. I was back on the ward very quickly after the procedure and was looked after by a great team of staff. Thank you to all involved.

  3. Review titled Emergency Department Triage is dangerous

Rated 1 star out of 5

    by Amanda G - Posted on 04 March 2024

Booked in with chest pain on 20 th Feb. I said less than 48 hours but on the form they put > 48 hours. Why? This was the 5th time this year since having Covid-19 over New Year. 3 times I'd been to sdec. Twice been given prednisolone due to wheezing. Very good care in January.  Sadly in February, re attending with wheezing, chest pain & palpitations a pulmonary embolism has not been excluded.  20th Feb I waited 3 hours with chest pain to be triaged then get an electrocardiogram. The electrocardiogram was not normal for me. I have a copy of my normal. The sister spoke to a consultant twice & I was only triaged to urgent treatment centre to see a gp !! I'd explained I'd been there the day before & the gp couldn't help. I'd told her I'd seen a gp on the morning at a winter pressures hub who couldn't help as he didn't have an ecg, bloods or ctpa facilities.  I went up to utc and asked, if I waited 4 hours, is a gp going to know if I have a pe (blood clot in lung)? They took the paperwork to the nurse in charge & said because emergency department claimed my ecg was normal, they would be happy to see me, but ultimately they wouldn't know if I had a pe or not. It would have been pointless staying. I took the ecg & Paperwork home. On the back of the paperwork the sister hadn't written things that clinically made no sense & also was not what I'd said. I'd also had a raised D-dimer on 13th Feb but nice guidelines weren't followed.  No ctpa or vq scan was done. So I've continued to get worse with chest pain and now daily palpitations.  My oxygen sats have been dropping to 93% since having Covid-19 but now they drop to 89%. I'm deteriorating. I should not have been triaged to Urgent treatment centre. Covid-19 is known to cause pe. Why was I triaged to see a gp in utc? I've had to type words in full or use lower case as you won't take reviews that have words with all capitals. Most medical terminology is all capitals. Please change this.

  4. Review titled Excellent care received

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Lorna - Posted on 28 February 2024

On the 19/02/2024 I went to A&E with stroke symptoms early hours of the morning. I was then told to attend the same day emergency care department. I was seen by an excellent Dr; the care I received was exceptional and thorough. I felt cared for and respected every step of the way. Dr was caring and polite. I can’t thank the Dr enough who was over seeing my care and all the staff on same day emergency department. Thank you so much you are amazing.

  5. Review titled Satisfied patient

Rated 5 stars out of 5

My husband came to Oncology from the Urology dept. He was treated there for Prostrate Cancer for 8 weeks. I cannot fault the dept at all. He was always welcomed by your friendly reception staff nurses and the radiology team making it all a less stressful time. I would appreciate if all of the staff were told this including your cafe staff on the Deansley Unit.

  6. Review titled Reasonable adjustments requests ignored. Autism unfriendly.

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Andy - Posted on 16 February 2024

Alarming levels of support, understanding and assistance for autistic patients at this Trust. Reasonable adjustment requests such as simple things like seeing a female consultant and having a room to wait in prior to my appointment due to the deficits of autism were vehemently questioned and the former request was refused due to them claiming it wasn't warranted! How do they know? Are they me? Are they autistic? Appalling levels of understanding and empathy. They told me there were no rooms for me to wait in initially. In a hospital of that size? Really? Multiple emails followed and they refused to confirm an appointment for me which would have alleviated the distress caused by uncertainty and an information vacuum. I wasn't asking to jump the waiting list, just to be given the certainty of when I would be seen and yet this proved beyond their capabilities. The endocrinology department should hang their heads in shame and hope that one day they aren't affected by something like autism and require the support and understanding of others in order for them to help. I have had to discharge myself and seek actual care and treatment from another hospital trust as I wouldn't have any faith in this lot to care for a hamster! Utterly disgraceful.

  7. Review titled Very Thankful

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Paul Stinchcombe - Posted on 12 March 2024

I would like to express my gratitude to your hospital and to all the staff who cared for me when I was transferred from Hereford Hospital to New Cross Hospital Wolverhampton on January 2nd, for a triple heart by pass operation. All of the staff who cared for me showed dedication, understanding and were all extremely professional and kind. I was particularly impressed by the younger staff, who so often are not recognised for their maturity and commitment. I could not have received better care or support through what was such a difficult personal time for me and my family. I am now feeling so much better and am well on the road to recovery.. Please pass on my sincere thanks to all of your staff and continue to carry out such important work.

  9. Review titled Emergency Admission - made me feel safe and reassured

    by Alisonx24 - Posted on 15 January 2024

In January 2024, I slipped down a few stairs and fractured and dislocated my left ankle. Although New Cross isn't my local hospital, I was taken there as the waiting times were much lower than the alternatives. I was seen within minutes of being taken into the triage hub by a consultant who was kindness itself. He kept me informed throughout the process of trying to relocate the bone which involved also being X-rayed and put onto plaster each time. The plasterer was professional and funny which put me at ease and the radiologist was kind and patient. Just lovely. I was admitted late at night and was on a ward by early the following morning...excellent service. The orthopaedic registrar talked through the upcoming operation in detail and made me feel safe and reassured. The consultant came later and discussed again in detail. I had the operation and was back on the ward within hours. The staff on this ward (A9) were so kind and considerate - and although very busy- never made you feel rushed. I was looked after by many nurses and HCA's - all were wonderful. The only slight negative comment I could make is that - although you don't come into hospital to sleep, but to get well - the night staff could make more of an effort to be a little quieter. The shouting and sometime raucous laughter could be disruptive.

  10. Review titled Good and caring treatment

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Diane Morris - Posted on 02 February 2024

After falling, I went to A&E and was seen and referred for an xray were they found a broken bone in my wrist. I was given a temporary plaster which helped ease the pain, then given an appointment for the fracture clinic in a few days. I had a cast put on and was told to come back in 3 weeks and was given good advice. After having my cast off I am now in a splint for 2 weeks and my wrist is healing well. I am so grateful to all the staff in A&E and the Fracture Clinic for all their friendly caring support and treatment I have received which was excellent from star to finish.
