  2. Review titled Disappointed

Rated 2 stars out of 5

There was a general feeling of disorganisation, starting with the inability to find any parking on site, total lack of signage to the appropriate department, and general impression that there were a lot of staff not really knowing or very interested in what they were doing. I would say that the procedure I went in for was carried out adequately, but that is the best I can say. I had a follow up phone call the following day, which I had to ask the person to call me back as I had an urgent occurrence during the call. They did not call me back. General impression is of poor overall management. Core of permanent staff trying to manage a lot of contract staff, and not really succeeding. Majority just going through the motions (no pun intended).

As usual the speed of being seen and professionalism of all the staff were spot on, I'm always filled with confidence when I use Harrogate Hospital

  4. Review titled All round great experience

From arriving at the department to hand over to my ‘lift’ home, my experience was excellent. All the staff were caring and kind and explained everything to me with patience. A colonoscopy is not a pleasant experience but the department made it as good as possible. I would urge anyone to take up the opportunity for this procedure, if it’s offered. Well done to all the personnel involved.

  5. Review titled Amazing care from everyone

Rated 5 stars out of 5

I broke my Ankle badly last week and required surgery. As a nurse myself I understand the importance of a good bedside manner and every member of staff I encountered at Harrogate Hospital was kind and helpful, even when they were very busy. I was seen quickly in A&E and the staff made me feel reassured with their knowledge and ability. Everyone was very kind and despite the pain, it was a very positive experience. I then spent a night on the Harlow ward, before being transferred to Nidderdale Orthopaedic ward. From the medical staff, nursing staff and support staff I felt very well cared for. The care I witnessed of other patients was also exceptional and I felt reassured that regardless of the current stresses the NHS is under, our wonderful work force continue to care above and beyond. Thank you for making a very stressful and painful experience far more pleasant than I expected.

  6. Review titled Unpleasant experience

Refered by 111 to Harrogate A and E. This is after attempts at finding a GP for a heightend issue. Which along with others also sent to A and E is a general theme. Seen by a Doctor who's response was essentially what are you doing here. Without asking they're taking my blood pressure. In and out in 2 minutes, no investigation and very few questions. Didn't read the notes or understand the background. Total lack of respect, zero people skills and lack of empathy. I was then sent to GP out of hours. The over whelming feeling is we don't really want you here. If you're not able or willing to assist why send people in the 1st place. Why say ring us back if gets worse, if you treat people as if there a nuisance. We appreciate the system is broken. But this is not the fault of the patient. Part of the reason there is a backlog is due to people not been seen or treated properly in the first place or being passed round the houses. Getting hold of a GP is challenging and people are left weeks waiting for an appointment. Hence the reason things escalate.

  7. Review titled Good experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by Ric W. - Posted on 27 October 2022

I attended the day surgery unit for a surgical procedure carried out under general anaesthetic. The nursing staff were extremely efficient, friendly and helpful. I was visited first by the anaesthetist, then the surgeon to explain the whole process. Later I was escorted to the theatre area where the procedure was carried out, and I was later returned to my original cubicle to rest and recover. A nurse gave me painkillers to take home, and went through with me some printed guidelines for using the painkillers to best effect, and how to look after myself while recovering at home. I cannot think of a single thing that could have been done better, and I am extremely grateful to the staff of the Day Surgery Unit.

  8. Review titled Efficient and friendly staff

I was seen by two nurses prior to surgery as an outpatient in two weeks time. Both were courteous, efficient and friendly. Tests were carried out, and I was guided through the preparation period prior to the surgery, the procedure itself on the day, and the care I would need to take after the surgery. It was a very positive experience for which I am very grateful.

  9. Review titled Absolutely amazing care at the Endoscopy Unit

Rated 5 stars out of 5

    by John F - Posted on 01 October 2022

I attended the Endoscopy Unit today for both a Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy. Every single step of my patient journey was incredibly well managed. The efficient and very helpful booking process was a great start and the preparatory materials sent to me were clear and well put together. On arrival, the Unit looked clean, professional and appeared to be very organised. I was greeted by a lovely welcoming staff member and then cared for by the most personable, caring and attentive nursing staff before, during and after my procedures. The Consultant was very personable and incredibly thorough, much more so than I have experienced with similar examinations at other Trusts. People living in Harrogate need to understand just how lucky they are to have such a wonderful service on their doorstep. Overall, an outstanding level of care and (even though it's a far from pleasant procedure to have to endure from a patient perspective) a delightful patient experience. Well done.
