  1. Review titled My dad

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Mrs C Shaw - Posted on 24 April 2024

My father was brought in by ambulance, I followed with my mum who has mobility issues, both were well cared for. Nurses dealt with dad and kept us informed. Dad was eventually admitted to a ward with pneumonia. 4 nurses inparticular went above and beyond on a busy shift making sure dad was well cared for. Thankyou.

  2. Review titled Thank you for saving my life

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Rob Grant - Posted on 28 April 2024

On Friday 15th March I had a near fatal heart attack and was so fortunate that the ambulance crew got me hospital in time and the full cardiac team were waiting for me in their new facility with new equipment when my heart stopped! The cardiac team kept me going and used their new equipment to repair the problem and got me going again. These wonderful people definitely gave me my life back and I can’t praise them or thank the enough. The experience makes me feel very humble. As the lovely consultant said “all your stars were aligned for you today”.

  3. Review titled Wonderful service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Christine Bartholomew - Posted on 01 March 2024

I was admitted for Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy yesterday. The appointment was timely, the staff were courteous, respectful and delightful. My concerns about painful experience in past procedures were listened to and acted upon. Everything was explained and I was supported well throughout the procedure. I was treated with respect by each member of staff I encountered, not forgetting the practitioner who contacted me 2 weeks prior to the procedure . I felt fully supported from that phone call onwards. I want to thank them all for making an experience I was dreading, tolerable( it would be pushing the boundary to describe it as pleasant!). Well done team endoscopy.

  6. Review titled Orthopedic Services

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Frederick Ruddick - Posted on 15 February 2024

The staff of this service were excellent throughout my short stay for hip replacement. This included the multi-diciplinary team on Maple C, such as nurses (student nurse & healthcare assistants), OT, Physio, domestic and portering services, ward clerk. My journey was seem less despite the service being under intense pressure for beds. Staff communicated with me clearly and with a good sense of humour (so important for patients). Perhaps the only improvement could be the wait for pharmacy prescriptions prior to discharge (about 3 hours). Overall the standard of care was excellent, and the pre discharge guidance from all disciplines was great and helpful. I wish to offer my deepest gratitude to the skillful surgery team who performed my operation via epidural anaesthesia. Wow, what an experience!! They were all clear and supportive though-out. I hope this review gets to the staff involved and is not simply used for hospital statistics. It is the staff that need to hear it, as they need to understand how they make a difference to peoples lives.

  7. Review titled Excellent Service

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Judith Gale - Posted on 19 February 2024

I posted my Mums hearing aid to the department on Wed, with a brief note explaining that it is broken and hope they could help. I received it back by post on Friday! The department must have dealt with it on the day and returned it. Very grateful for this prompt and efficient service. I've always had really good service from Audiology both at West Cumberland and Carlisle, for my husband myself and my mother, and this one day turn around was amazing.

  8. Review titled My opinion has changed dramatically

Rated 4 stars out of 5

by Elaine Wilson - Posted on 17 February 2024

Had to attend Accident & Emergency for an infected large cyst when it ruptured. Rather worried as my last visit with sepsis in 2019 went badly wrong. However I was seen reasonably promptly by surgical team in Accident & Emergency who tried to arrange my incision & drainage. However, a large number of emergencies forced a postponement to following day. I returned via the Elective Care/Day Surgery unit but an even busier day meant another postponement. Arriving again Friday, my op was prioritised through the day and eventually scheduled to a firm time in the afternoon. Apologies made throughout whole delay which I accepted as it wasn't there fault there were so many emergency surgeries coming through when mine was not life threatening. The care I received in the Elective Care Unit was exceptional. Every member of the team was friendly, helpful and efficient at all levels, from staff nurses to students. This was my very first op under general anaesthetic and I was treated well all the way to theatre and back. I was so pleased with my treatment as it was in total contrast to my previous visit in 2019. Recovery was smooth and easy for me and I sailed through with no complications. What a contrast! I'm no longer reluctant to attend this hospital now as my long delay in treatment enabled me to observe some very dedicated staff work in difficult demanding circumstances. I noticed the supply issues, shortage of staff and resources too. Seeing two young ladies starting careers in this difficult environment was inspiring too. I wished them both well on discharge as they were very helpful during my stay. Hopefully I have no reason to return again but at least I know treatment has improved dramatically and I can feel confident in the acute service again.
