  1. Review titled Cancelled!!

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 17 July 2023

I keep getting appointments and then a few weeks beforehand they are cancelled. What is going on? From initially supposed to have been seen on the 7th July, my next appointment is now towards the end of September. I'm in pain and fed up. I feel quite forgotten about and tired of it all.

  3. Review titled Rheumatology Advice Line

Rated 3 stars out of 5

I've been waiting since 10:00 am for a telephone appt. It is now 11:43. I've tried to call the help line 4x times today, and each time the call is disconnected. I usually have very good service, but am now getting fed up of the call being disconnected today.

  4. Review titled Extraordinary care and compassion. Restored some faith.

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Andreas - Posted on 01 March 2023

Being an out of area patient and autistic, first impressions were a bit disheartening. Twenty minutes to find a parking space combined with trying to find the relevant area in the hospital I was meant to go wasn't a great start. How about having the word 'rheumatology' written on a sign where rheumatology is? Just an idea. The consultant was running about half an hour late which normally would lead to resistance from myself, however once the consultant sat down with me and we began, that was soon forgotten. I would struggle to find anyone else within the NHS (and believe me - i have done) who was as amazing as this person. Every need i had was met, everything was structured, meticulous and explained and the superior levels of care and compassion afforded me cannot be taught. I came to Leeds for a 2nd opinion after having a poor experience at another large NHS hospital in the North West and if only I was able to have had this consultant first time around then it would have solved a lot of problems. I was given the very best care and treatment I could have hoped for. A mention to the other staff involved in my care on the day including the phlebotomist in bloods who I enjoyed a footy chat with. The admin staff, the girls in the X-Ray department who were engaging, down to earth and helpful and also the lady who helped me find a room to wait in and who did my BP readings etc. Far too many of my experiences with the NHS have been worse than poor creating a distrust and fear to be honest, but on face value, the overall treatment and care i've received from Leeds Chapel Allerton Hospital has been truly wonderful and exceeded expectations.

  5. Review titled good ultrasound experience

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Angela - Posted on 27 April 2023

had an ultrasound of my arm but also had awful pain in my shoulder. The lady taking the ultrasound listened to my comments and did a thorough ultrasound on my shoulder. I have a tear in my shoulder and due to the thorough ultrasound have seen a consultant and am having surgery for the problem. Thank you so much for your empathy of the pain I was experiencing and for being professional. The Reception staff were also professional and friendly. I was also seen on time.

  7. Review titled Best care and compassionate staff

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Jennie - Posted on 09 May 2023

After struggling for over 10 years with chronic pain I was sent to the rheumatologist department for further investigation. The waiting time was around 9 months once referred by my gp. Once I was seen, numerous tests were done and I was finally diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis. The care I have received has been fantastic and the staff are very compassionate and caring. My only concern is around booking appointments as it would be easier to be able to call and speak to a receptionist, than leaving on the answer phone. Thankyou to everyone in regards to my care including physiotherapy.

  8. Review titled Poor service

Rated 1 star out of 5

by Sam - Posted on 28 November 2022

My husband was referred to dermatology via his gp. He received a letter stating the referral was under review and if not heard anything by 15th Nov to co tact the dept. My husband tried but couldn't get through. He was very distraught this weekend saying he couldn't get through and no one cares. I decided to try for him this morning. The lines open 0845am I rang at 0845am but was told I was number 18 in the queue. I start work at 9am had to end the call. My husband had gi ished his night shift and tried after me and is still on hold at number 32. There is no alternative number to ring. I myself work at Pinderfields hospital but is this some kind of a joke?????

  9. Review titled Shocking

Rated 2 stars out of 5

Telephone line a nightmare, can't get to speak to anyone. No one knows what is going on. Appointment line were rude when I asked to cancel an unexpected appointment that I couldn't attend & was freeing up for another patient. Rheumatology receptionist does not let you finish a full sentence. It's difficult to speak to a human being or for them to understand what is needed or communicate what is happening clearly.

  10. Review titled Good luck ever getting your call answered

Rated 2 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 06 October 2022

Rang today as my partner is due for surgery within the next few weeks. However we are yet to get his appointment through. Called the outpatients team and waited 45 minutes in line to speak to the advisor. Explained the situation and she said she would pass me straight through to the booking team. That I won’t have to wait, I’ll be straight through. Got passed through and the automated messsage said I was call no 1 in the queue. Waited a further 10 minutes for the automated message to say there was nobody to take my call, try again later. It then hung up. Rather than waiting another 45 minutes (if not longer now) in the queue for the same to happen, I called orthopedics directly (the surgery is for my partner’s hip). I explained I’d already waited and had been hung up on, and didn’t want to have to go through all that again. She immediately sent me through to the original booking team I’d rang. I rang back to explain she’d sent me through to the wrong department and a man answered. Told me it was the only number available and that everyone else had to queue for their appointments too. I tried to explain the situation (extremely upset at this point for everyone wasting time), for him to ignore me and mid sentence just put me back through to the original phone line again. I rang him back saying that I had clearly told him I didn’t want to be referred to that number, and wanted to go directly to the appointment team instead. He asked me questions I’d already answered and then just kept saying there was no other number. Very frustrated by this point I said there was clearly another department, as the original lady had put me through, but there were clearly insufficient staff to actually answer. He says ‘are you going to listen to me now?’ And I said that he should drop the attitude. He puts me through to his ‘colleague’ who didn’t even work at chapel allerton, who then was like ‘oh I’ll put you through to chapel allerton’. On that transfer, the phone just rang dead and literally nobody ever answered. It would honestly be quicker to drive to the hospital (an hour and a bit away) and track the team down myself. Maybe instead of a single line for ‘outpatients’ you should create specific lines for different surgeries or different queries. We shouldn’t have to constantly go to round in circles due to staff incompetencies. It’s like everyone gives you the runaround because they either don’t know/don’t listen, can’t be bothered or that they just want to waste as much time as possible.
