Usual poor service from the Grove my midwife advised me to get an on the day appointment for conjunctivitis for my new born baby. I was told there were no appointments left and that I should attend Barnet ED. It’s no wonder the acute sector is completely overrun. This is a primary care issue - and yet again the grove fails to look after its most vulnerable be it elderly or new born. I had a c section in the last two weeks and no thought for this has been given at all.

Dear Jo Thank you for taking the time to speak with me earlier today. I’m very sorry that our Practice did not help your new-born baby. Unfortunately, when we experience high demand and cannot meet the appointment requests for our patients, we sometimes need to signpost patients to other services for urgent care. However, as a Practice we do try to make adjustments to support our most vulnerable patients. On this occasion, we had no appointments available for the afternoon you called, but we should have offered your baby the next available appointment and advised you to attend an urgent treatment centre if you felt your baby required attention more urgently. I will discuss this with the staff member who took your call so they are aware of when to flag concerns to Doctors or managers in order to support young babies or other vulnerable patients.
