  1. Review titled Considering all the challenges these days, very good

Rated 5 stars out of 5

by Anonymous - Posted on 21 October 2022

I moved to this practice 3 years ago after losing trust in the surgery I had been with for nearly 50 years. The contrast was immediate – effective response by doctors, a professional team at reception, and good administration. It's disappointing therefore to read of negative experiences of others. These seem to focus largely on the appointment system, and involve 2 complaints: (1) That appointments can only be made for the same day. This does seem to be unduly restrictive. (2) difficulty in getting through to the surgery. While I usually have to wait 10 - 15 minutes to get through on the 8 o'clock call, that does not, in these resource constrained times, seem all that unreasonable. I have also made use of the Econsult system to report medical issues, and have found that very useful, with a relatively quick response, followed up where necessary with a face-to-face appointment.

  2. Review titled Be Prepared to wait!

Rated 1 star out of 5

The practice needs to sort out their phone system as it takes 30 min plus to get through whether your booking a face to face appointment, a call or have a query about a prescription you were given. Please sort it out

  3. Review titled Dread calling reception

Rated 1 star out of 5

It is virtually impossible to get an appointment and reception staff are mostly at best, unhelpful and at worst, rude. I now dread having to make an appointment. You are not made to feel welcome or safe at this surgery. They are still playing the 'stay away due to covid' pre-recorded message on their appointment line despite the fact that you are apparently now able to walk into the surgery. I suffer from anxiety and have been unable to reach my doctor for a week after experiencing unpleasant side-effects while following her instructions to weaning myself off the drugs. Being unable to reach any doctor, being cut off the phone when trying to make an appointment and being faced with unhelpful and unempathetic staff when I do (I was told to 'send an email') only exacerbates my anxiety. I have thankfully moved home and will be changing my surgery immediately.

  4. Review titled Good luck getting an appointment

Rated 1 star out of 5

The doctors are great once you get an appointment, however getting one is like attempting the crystal maze. Unless you call at precisely 9am (and get through) they won’t see you. Sadly they fail to realise that people do get unwell or things change at other points in the day. If you try at another time (even in an emergency for your baby) they will tell you to call 111 or to call back after 6:30 so as to go through the out of hours process that is centralised elsewhere (and not their problem) At a time when the NHS is funnelling us more and move via our GPs, this surgery’s booking system is not fit for purpose, and actually puts people at risk. We have tried to move to another surgery, however Ritchie street practice seem to have a monopoly in the area. The other surgeries say they get a number of calls from patients of Ritchie street every day asking the same but that we aren’t in their catchment area. It’s a great shame as their systems and processes let them down vs the quality of the doctors who work there. There are two major issues that need to be addressed urgently; Actually answer the phone (the people are very aware of a technical glitch that can leave you on hold indefinitely - this has been happening for years but they don’t fix it) Allow people to make emergency appointments throughout the day or do a walk in clinic in the afternoons - their current attitude to send people elsewhere is wrong and not something other practices do

Dear patient Thank you for your feedback. Please accept my apologies for the negative experience that you had. We have tweaked the phone system and increased the number of staff to answer calls. I therefore hope you experience with us will improve. However, please note that we have set capacity every day and are not always able to meet the demand. to help patients access GP services, we have a large catchment area than most practices. Please do visit our new website www.ritchiestreetgp.co.uk for other ways that you can now access services. Regards Ash Ganger Practice Manager

  5. Review titled Post-Covid hangover?

Rated 2 stars out of 5

We all support and love the NHS but now we are sadly being let down by Ritchie St admin. No appointments, no seeing doctors, long phone queues, phone calls cut off, routine difficulties, daily frustrations: all lead to increased pressure on staff, nurses, patients, doctors. Why call at 8am for same day phone appointments so phones are busy? Why no advance appointments? Someone must be gaining from this crazy system - but not the staff or patients.
